Duke will choke like always...never trust a team where two white boys are your best players...

I actually did a ton of 1st round research for once...lets see if it works better than the guessing game I do every other year.

KU, Cuse, WV, Duke

KU, WV

KU

I figure Duke is a safer pick than going with not so good Villanova team, a talented but inconsistent Baylor team, and an injured Purdue team.

Agreed, but as you may well know, Purdue seems lost without Hummel.

I don't know -- just not a whole lot of potential upset alerts in my opinion. But, obviously that doesn't mean much.

Everyone picks an upset or 2 in their bracket. But picking 4 double digit seeds to make the Final 4 is criminally insane.

Did you research the UW - Marquette game? I think the Huskies are a legitimate dark horse in this tourney. The Pac 10 is GREATLY discredited this year, the Huskies are on a fucking tear right now, and if they can get by Marquette they get New Mexico who I think they could beat as well.

my main reason for picking Purdue is...

Yeah, they had one AWFUL game that is sticking out to everybody...so the line is way off and everyone is picking Siena to the point where it might end up being a pick'em line when the game is actually played...and Purdue was 3-2 in the Big 10 without him...and the Big 10 was a little underrated this year...

I went with Purdue more or less because everyone is picking Sienna and I just don't feel like going that route...I have them losing in the next round to Texas A&M anyways.

No offense taken. I'm a homer, but I'm not an idiot. They discredited themselves. I don't think the Pac 10 has been looked at as garbage for basketball overall. This year though they really looked bad.

I was pissed about our seed until I saw our bracket. I love it now. And they are on a fucking tear. USC was the last game they lost. They won 12 of their last 14 up to the tourney. I do think though that had they not won the conference tournament they wouldn't have made it which is criminal to me. They were in the top 50 in RPI, and closed strong. The tourney is supposed to love those teams.

One thing that you can somewhat take into account is the NIT games. You can get a feel to see if a conference overall may have been overrated and underrated. Sure there may not be much relevance, but it doesn't hurt to take it into account.

The biggest margin of victory in the NIT thus far was Texas Tech thumping Seton Hall on the road by 20 points. Tech went 4-12 in the Big 12, yet Seton Hall went 9-9 in the almighty Big East....

Would have loved to see Colorado perform in the NIT

Not when the higher seeded teams are actually statistically better than the lower seeded teams (Old Dominion, San Diego St, UTEP).

And I normally pick 3-4 "upsets" in the 1st round, so I don't see it as anything out of the ordinary.

Edit: Shit, did you think I picked those teams to make the FF?

I have probably watched as little college basketball this year as I have in a long time. I am not that sold on a young Kentucky team but just could not find a game to knock them out. Duke is the weakest #1 seed in the tourney IMO.

I had Murray St. penciled in for a win in the first two rounds but now I am giving that some second thought. I just heard on the radio down here that one of the player's mother died in a car accident the same day the team was leaving for the tourney. Anyone else hear about this?

I'm having a hard time picking where I think the 1 seeds will lose. I never do the all 1 seeds bracket but I did a couple of them this year. Most with KU winning. I don't trust Duke but I don't like their bracket. I think a young Kentucky team would be vulnerable but I don't like their bracket either. A Syracuse-Gonzaga game actually scares me more than the others.

I do have Washington going far in a few of my brackets... and I think the Pac 10 is horrible. But they do have talent.... and their half of the bracket has Huggins and Alford. We'll see if history breaks, those guys have not done well at all with high seeds. Same with Clemson, but somebody has to reach the elite 8. This Huggins team actually seems to have some clutch ability.

It's tough because a lot of the 2-4 seeds have major issues in my mind. Way more than normal, I think because a lot of them have not had a ton of tourney success. Would you be surprised if someone like Baylor or K-State got knocked upside the head in the wrong tourney matchup? You can see them going to the Final Four or getting caught up in the pressure and losing the 2nd round. I'm interested in seeing what Gonzaga does, they always seem to do better as a lower seed.

Yep... I usually put one together that I feel good about and then fill out a few others that are fairly similar, but I could barely get through one this year.

The South sucks... I had a hard time with Baylor and Villanova because I don't trust either of them. I put Duke in the FF because I didn't want to put 3 BE teams in the Final Four, but I don't think Baylor or A&M could get that far, either.

I also think Kentucky is vulnerable, but I don't see them losing before the EE, so I have them losing to WVU. Then putting WVU into the championship game just feels weird.

I have Syracuse/KU on the other side, and KU winning it all.

I have Syracuse/KU on the other side, and KU winning it all.

That's part of it, there are so many new teams that haven't been there before. And usually when it comes to the Final Four, the high seeds get there, but usually only a couple No. 1's. Which leaves you with teams like New Mexico or Baylor to choose from. Or teams with talent but serious question marks that limped to the finish (Nova, Purdue).
