Aldrich, a projected lottery pick, averaged 11.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per season in three years at Kansas. He averaged 14.9 points and 11.1 rebounds as a sophomore in 2008-09 after playing a limited role during the Jayhawks' 2007-08 national championship season. The 6-foot-11, 245-pound Aldrich is considered one of the top big men in the June draft.

Under a new NCAA rule, college players have until May 8 to withdraw from the draft. The deadline to declare is April 25. NBA teams can start working out players on April 29.

Andy Katz is a senior college basketball writer for ESPN.com.

he's ready to get on the floor on defense, but he won't do well offensively.

NBA drafts on potential. That kid has tons of raw talent and has learned how to play defense from Bill Self.

That's $3.2mil in the bank per year for the next 3 years. If he stands out during that time period, it's a hell of a lot more green on the next contract.

No doubt. With Whithey off the bench and the Morrii - I ain't worried. Danny Manning gonna work the same magic on TRob and Whithey as he did with all the other bigs that came in incredibly raw and almost useless and came out professional players.

not really ... that's another strike against in my book.

imo the NBA is going away from the true center ... teams prefer large, athletic forwards that can do the job of a center but still move like a forward.

Smart choice. He needs to start looking for employment so he can apply for dental insurance. He'll be a bench warmer in the NBA. Solid defensive minutes but his offensive game will look terrible in the NBA.

agreed ... but it's just gonna be hard for Cole to have a "stellar" carreer with the lack of offensive skills.

maybe he will learn some

Yeah I heard Greg Gurley earlier talking about him developing a 16 foot jump shot in order to have success in the pro's.

he has a higher ceiling that Pryzbilla...

He can definitely be an important defensive stopper for a lot of contending teams...

I could care less how his NBA career turns out. He was a great player and person to represent the KU program. Without him, we probably wouldn't have beat UNC in the F4.

Good luck Cole, and thanks for 3 great years.

Przybilla is a very solid backup center who plays good defense and is effective against guys his size but struggles against the pick and roll and the face-up oriented centers a lot of teams play.

Aldrich will have the same problems.

Don't take the comparison as a negative. Przybilla is an effective backup, defensive-minded center.

Aldrich just doesn't have the lateral quickness or athleticism to guard the pick and roll consistently, and he will struggle against the smaller, quicker centers.

I can't see him being an offensive contributor except as a guy who gives you energy and garbage points. He won't get that jumper off in the NBA, doesn't handle well enough to face up, and only has one (moderately) effective move (jump hook to left shoulder) that loses effectiveness against guys his size.

He'll have a nice, solid 10-12 year career coming off the bench and playing 15 minutes a game. Nothing wrong with that.

Basically he is Scott Pollard.

Aldrich has nice length, but his lack of lateral quickness will be an issue guarding pick and rolls on the NBA level. He'll be a servicable big. Przybilla isn't a bad comparison.

I'm hardly saying he will be anything special and have no KU allegiance whatsoever. Kaun still has some decent NBA potential as a serviceable bench player.

Hi, Bill Simmons.

I don't read that POS. Or really anything from espn other than the Big 12 college football blog.

I've been making ghat comparison for over a year (especially on PowerMizzou). But it's not exactly a shocking or groundbreaking comparison. Pretty obvious, in my opinion. They're both goofy looking guys from Minnesota who have little offensive game and good shot blocking skills.
