The Yankees had a good bullpen last year, but in years prior, it wasn't very good. Farnsworth was never, ever trusted in New York. He always came in on mop-up situations because he would always blow it when the game was on the line.

This guy is a joke. He's one of those guys who thinks he can blow a fastball by you on every single pitch. He has never been even remotely near the hype that he was surrounded with.

More and more, it’s clear that Moore is aggressively trying to make the Royals into a contender in 2009-2010, with the caveat that he won’t do anything that might hamstring the Royals from building a year-in, year-out juggernaut in 2012 and beyond.

Well, it's generally true that bullpen pitchers are unpredictable commodities. Many go from trash, to great, to trash, and back again.

Ramirez is a great example of this. Picked off the trash, literally. Lit it up, traded for Crisp, and now people look back longingly.

A competent GM *should* be able to assemble a decent pen ever year. And I wouldn't hesitate to trade relievers. The catch, however, is that you actually need to...wait for it...get something of value in return.

Don't bitch about the concept simply because we have a stupid fucking GM.

One of the few good things about JP Ricciardi (current ESPN analyst) as a Jays fan was his ability to build a good bullpen every year at a cheap cost. He generally went for guys off the scrap heap with the ability to keep the ball on the ground (Justin Speier, Scott Downs, Shawn Camp, Jeremy Accardo, Jesse Carlson, Brian Tallet, Brian Wolfe). It was when he actually went out and signed guys for money (BJ Ryan) that he ran into problems. Moore seems to have a similar problem with signing guys (Kyle Farnsworth), except he doesn't seem to have the same ability to recognize talent off the scrap heap.

Well I wouldn't say it's quite as good. He absolutely nailed it with Soria and Ramon Ramirez though. He's done a lot better doing that than signing free agents. Same thing with Brian Bannister.. people thought was crazy for trading Burgos but in retrospect that was obviously a great trade.

Our bullpen blows fukcing chunks, but our offense appears to be incapable of scoring more than 3.5 runs/game. That ain't gonna get it done.
