<!-- end mod-article-title --> <!-- begin story body --> <!-- template inline -->PITTSBURGH -- A Pittsburgh company that markets food products endorsed by local sports stars has ended its beef jerky sponsorship deal with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5536).

AFC North blog

PLB Sports president Ty Ballou says Roethlisberger is "falling short" of the company's standards after a Georgia prosecutor announced Monday he will not prosecute the quarterback over sexual assault allegations.

The company said in a statement on Tuesday that facts presented at the prosecutor's news conference led to the decision.

The company sold "Big Ben's Beef Jerky" in bags depicting the quarterback at Pittsburgh area Giant Eagle supermarkets and GetGo convenience stores.

The same company markets a breakfast cereal endorsed by Steelers receiver Hines Ward (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=1494) and Penguins forward Max Talbot (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=2249).

It is quite interesting that a beef jerky company dropped him.

He should have "jerky-ed" that night instead of doing what he did.

I don't understand. Someone please explain to me.
The charges were not filed, does not that mean that Ben is clear and he may not have done anything in the first place?
If so, then why there's so much backlash?

Bad move imo. Nothing sells beef jerky better than a date rape face.

Maybe they decided to get ahead of the next charges that won't be filed.

Ill answer your question with a question.

When you think of OJ Simpson, do you view him first as a great HOF football talent, or do you think of his murder case?

It's all about public image. And I doubt this beef jerky company has all the money in the world like Coke Nike or McDonalds to waste on someone that "allegedly" had some kinda sexual misconduct w/ some college girl.

It says after some of the facts came to light they decided to drop him. Probably things like buying a 20 year old shots, being a drunk ass locked in a bathroom with said 20 year old, and general drunken frat boy behavior more than likely led to his dismissal.

That's what came to my mind. Thanks

Y'know who should pick up Ben as a spokesman? Match.com.

Envision this commercial. Ben is in a night club, leaning up against the bar. He talks about the benefits of match.com and how it produces good matches between compatible people. And then he says, "If you don't use match.com, what else are you going to do? Go to a bar and meet someone like me?" As the camera fades, Ben checks out a lovely young woman and says, "Hey! You! On your knees!"

Pretty good article I just read:
http://dscriber.com/juke/1528-ben-roethlisberger-and-sex-assault-charges-more-looming-as-he-gets-in-the-clear-.html

A potential third case may have also been under wraps?

Guilty or not guilty, these charges don't look good for your company if you're relying on this guy as a spokesperson for your brand.

This is publicity for a company nobody ever heard of.
