2 thirds to move down to 24 is an awfully nice haul.

...they're gearing up for Clausen

Not gonna happen. McDaniels isn't a fan of him.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels told ESPN's Ed Werder Thursday night that Jimmy Clausen will not be an option at No. 11 overall.

McDaniels said the Broncos have three players they're willing to select at No. 11 if they can't move down, but Clausen isn't one of them. Denver is believed to be high on DE Brandon Graham, C Maurkice Pouncey, and LB Rolando McClain. Apr. 22 - 6:19 pm et

I think McDaniels wants Pouncey, Iupati, Tebow, and Dez Bryant.

Quesadilla Joe
04-22-2010, 07:11 PM
All these picks give Denver A LOT of flexibility to move down or trade up for the players they target. I'm a little worried we might miss our guys but if McDaniels really wants somebody he will not hesitate to move up and get his guy.

Dez Bryant has a really good chance of falling to Denver with Houston, Cincy, NE, and GB picking. None of them have a real big WR need. Hopefully nobody trades up for Bryant.

I would have rather wound up with Pouncey or Iupati, but I am pretty happy with how the draft has went so far. Having 5 picks in the 2nd and 3rd round is going to be a great thing for Denver. Hopefully they can beef up the interior OL there and maybe add some young depth on the DL.

They traded a 2nd, 3rd, and a 4th for Tebow. McDaniels knows how to evaluate and develop QB's. He traded a QB last year and then he went on to lead the league in INT's. McDaniels is MUCH smarter than EVERYONE here gives him credit for.

Broncos' McDaniels can kiss job goodbye with Tebow pick

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/story/13275324/broncos-mcdaniels-can-kiss-job-goodbye-with-tebow-pick

Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels should enjoy the next year or two in Denver. Really. Soak all of it in. Enjoy being a head coach. Enjoy making all the decisions.

Your days are numbered.

When you trade away Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler, the key components in the Broncos passing game in a year span, and then draft Tim Tebow in the first round of the draft, you are sending a loud message.

Talent doesn't matter.

Character does.

Why not pick the altar boys from the parish down the street? Aren't they good kids? Or maybe you can pick all the "A" students in this draft?

It doesn't matter if they can play. Just make sure they are good "yes men."

It just doesn't make any sense.

I understand a coach wanting to have good character guys, but this is going past that.

Tebow is a fifth-round talent.

First round?

Nobody in their right mind would ever say that Tebow plays the position better than Cutler. But Cutler was shipped out for being a bad boy.

Now they have Saint Timmy to fix things.

Here's a bet: He doesn't even beat out Brady Quinn.

He makes Quinn and Kyle Orton, the other quarterback, look like John Elway.

Tebow is raw. He doesn't understand the passing game. He doesn't read defenses.

Oh, but he's a good kid.

At least he'll save the locker room.

Really? If you aren't playing, character doesn't matter. The NFL is a cruel business. His rah-rah crap doesn't matter. They won't listen. They won't stand for it.

Crying after losses?

Yeah, right.

But the skills aren't there. He isn't close to being as good as Jimmy Clausen. Too bad for Jimmy he doesn't have the character Tebow has, at least that's what they say.

The Broncos reached big time for Tebow. But look at the bright side: At least he won't be running the streets.

He also won't be starting anytime soon -- if ever.

And Josh McDaniels will lose his job in a year or two over this one and his other moves over the past year.

They have a coach who made Matt Cassel and Kyle "Pro Bowl" Orton look like QBs. Maybe they know something guys who talk about football on TV don't.

Sure, make your gameplan fit the limitations of your QB and don't win shit.

Broncos get #25 and #119. Ravens get #43, #70, and #114.

720 + 56 = 776 for Broncos.
470 + 240 + 66 = 776 for Ravens.

THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE, CP'ERS! By folks who know what they're doing, that is.

Congrats. You traded down, passed up a high quality WR for a minimum 3 year project and traded for even point value for a Ryan Leaf style bust. Props. LMAO

I don't know man. I watched Cutler just slowly become this prissy little bitch that embarrassed me as a Bronco fan and I'm happy he's gone. I saw Marshall act like a spoiled child until it really started pissing me off, and I'm glad that he's gone. I heard Tony Scheffler give up on a season part of the way through and cry about his bff Cutler leaving until it sickened me. He's also gone and I'm happy about it. So many other athletes that I wanted the Broncos to draft this year. So many possibilities with the extra picks, but it's done. This Tebow kid is obviously a good kid. Seems to me to be a character guy. I've learned a lot about him as a person over the off season because he was hyped like crazy. Honestly...the kid impressed me as a human being. So we'll see what he's got as a Quarterback. I'm all right with it.

I went absolutely ape shit over the trade that got us Alphonse Smith last year. I watched that pick go by this year and got pissed all over again. They "lost" the value of a 4th-rounder. Big deal.

And they obviously didn't "blow" the pick. They got exactly who they wanted.

So it all hinges on whether Tebow delivers or not. If he does, McDaniels will be a genius. If not - it's just the 25th pick. It's not like blowing #3 on a 5-technique or something.

Or even gambling on a Safety at #5.

He makes Quinn and Kyle "Pro Bowl" Orton, the other quarterback, look like John Elway.

Does he work hard? Yes. Does he want to be good? Yes.

But the skills aren't there. He isn't close to being as good as Jimmy Clausen. Too bad for Jimmy he doesn't have the character Tebow has, at least that's what they say.

The Broncos reached big time for Tebow. But look at the bright side: At least he won't be running the streets.

lol, you cant change the way you throw the ball a few months before the draft. Why the hell didnt he change the way he threw the ball when he was in College? it makes fucking no sense.

this has epic fail written all over it. I have no issues with Tebow the person. He's a nice dude, but that was just a stupid pick. Who they had and who they have now? fucking /facepalm.

From what I've heard, he's worked on changing his mechanics the past two off-seasons. Every time he started practice again, Meyer would tell him to just forget it since he went back to his old motion in game/practice situations.

Just what I've heard.

There were quite a few teams who were planning on trading up for Tebow. And the teams that didn't want Tebow already had a QB or didn't have the balls/job security to take him in the first round.

Nobody here can come up with a solid argument of why Tebow will fail in the NFL. All people can do is regurgitate the things they heard ESPN say the past 3 years. He has a strong arm, he is smart, mobile, tough, a leader, has a good feel for the rush. He doesn't have Sam Bradford accuracy but he also isn't an inaccurate QB and he has the work ethic to become more accurate.

And he isn't just a run first QB either. He will stay in the pocket if he can get a big play down the field.

http://www.gifsoup.com/imager.php?id=362336 (http://www.gifsoup.com/view/362336/tebow.html)

Look at how good he is in the pocket. That is just an excellent feel for the game that is very hard to teach. Cassel/Thigpen would have taken off running once the pocket got cluttered and Orton probably would have taken a sack.

Reason's he'll fail?

How about, spread offense, not even a regular spread offense, the horrendous Urban Meyer spread offense. Attempting to change his throwing mechanics, not being an accurate passer, not understanding how to read a defense, the list goes on and on and on.

Considering McDaniels and Belichick have implemented a number of concepts from Urban Meyer's offense since 2007 I wouldn't say it is a bad thing that Tebow wound up in Denver.

Alex Smith is the only reason people say that. Some people bust, it happens. Mayock was very impressed with Tebow's accuracy and ball placement at his pro day, and you can get more accurate with repetition. You can't really get faster or do anything to make your arm stronger, but you can become more accurate. Tebow already has the physical tools and has the mental aptitude and work ethic to learn how to run an NFL offense.

From Woody's post draft article
The Broncos just got Back to the Future with the Quarterback of the Future.

Tim Tremendous may be high risk, but he will be a Mile High Reward.

Timothy Richard — you may know him as Tim — Tebow is The Real Steal. On Thursday night, the Broncos became relevant again for the first time since The Quarterback of the Past, John Elway, retired after back-to-back Super Bowls.

The greatest all-time college quarterback will be a big-time quarterback in professional football.

In this space last Sunday, I strongly recommended that the Broncos go for Tebow and wrote: Make it happen, McDaniels. The Broncos made the best pick of the draft, and Josh made it happen.

A lot of what McDaniels does in the draft appears to be predicated on his ego. He defies conventional wisdom regularly and makes a lot of "I'm smarter than you" picks. I doubt that he is, and it invites problems since he doesn't have much in the way of oversight there, but I think he has a plan... it's just inscrutable.

The thing that confuses me though, is that as bad as the talent on that defense was when McDaniels took that job, he's spent the equivalent of five first round picks and netted his defense a nickel corner and a pass rusher who recorded zero (0) sacks in his first year.
