There are viral infections that affect the nervous system out there. A lot of the times, the symptoms are very similar to a stroke (i.e. slurred speech, one side of the face droopy, etc). I'm pretty sure Split had no reason to lie, especially given the fact that his story matches up with the symptoms.

I agree no reason to doubt split but those were the two things I have heard the most. Either way it is sad to hear him in that manner as he was becoming one of my favorite announcers.

Bell's Palsy goes away with treatment. I had it the summer between my Jr-Sr year in HS.
