Oh wise ones,
I have a boat trailer that has stumped me. I have blinkers and brake lights, but no tail lights or running lights on the side of the trailer. I checked the bulbs and they look good. Any ideas? Is there a fuse in my truck(2010 F-150) that would be just for the running lights and not the others?

The blinkers/brake lights are a separate circuit from the tail lights. If the tail lights are working on your truck, the problem is either in the plug or the wiring on your trailer.

Thank you Bugeater. It is the 4 prong connector and the one female connector on the trailer side looks a little banged up. I'll replace it and try that.
Thanks again

I just went through the same thing with my toy hauler. One of the prongs was messed up. I replaced both the ends on the truck and trailer. They were both fly by night plastic ends and I replaced them both with steel. I also replaced them with a strong pin style, rather that the rinky dink junk that was on there.

Here is a great resource:

http://www.easternmarine.com/em_store/tech_info/light_tech.html

If you have a volt meter I would start at the plug. Turn your head/tail lights on, put the black lead on the chassis and probe the plug on your truck. One of the pins should have 12v that goes on/off with the lights. If not, the problem is on the truck side. If so the problem is on your trailer.

BINGO. That wiring diagram would explain my bent up female connector and why i don't have tails or side lights.

The brown wire is the one you need to be looking at. Should have 12v on there with your headlights on. There is a junction at some point where the left/right tail lights split off. If you figure out your truck side is good that is where I would suspect.

Its funny. I posted this here on Chiefsplanet, and on the "official" F-150 forum and had what I am confident is my answer in less than 30 minutes here, and still nothing over there.

Thanks again.
