The Chiefs signed WR David Grimes on Tuesday, who competed in the Chiefs rookie camp this past weekend

The Chiefs worked out eight players this past weekend on a tryout basis at the club's annual rookie mini-camp. Of those eight, head coach Todd Haley indicated that two or three of the hopefuls had a chance at landing a contract for the start of OTAs on May 17th. On Tuesday afternoon, the Chiefs extended one of those tryout players an invite.

David Grimes, a former Notre Dame wide receiver under Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, has been added to Kansas City’s roster. Though he was a weekend tryout invite, Grimes does not qualify as a rookie. He actually entered the league in 2009 as an undrafted free agent with Denver, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. Since Grimes does not have an accrued season of NFL experience, he was eligible to participate in the Chiefs rookie camp.

At 5-9, 183, Grimes has both receiving and return experience. He caught 90 passes for 900 yards with seven TDs during his career at Notre Dame and also returned 36 kickoffs for 852 yards.

Grimes represents the first tryout player from this past weekend to sign a contract with the Chiefs.

He is someone that knows the offense and what is expected. Due to the fact of the fast pace nature of practices, you need camp fodder. Grimes will be someone that knows what is expected in Charles offense and not take up to much time of the coaches efforts in explaining stuff to a player that won't likely be here come season time. I would say a pretty smart move on the Chiefs part.

Same reason you see many of the ex-Patriots retreads being signed. They know what to do and don't take up as much coaching effort (that could go towards a player that is wanted).

that was a nice diving catch, i still think that classen did that crap on a regular basis. the guy was wide open and he overthrows it. This guy will likely make a decent practice squad player
