Chargers Pro Bowl receiver Vincent Jackson pleaded guilty Friday to knowingly driving with a suspended license stemming from his traffic stop a few hours before his team’s home playoff loss against the New York Jets on Jan. 17.

He entered his plea as part of a deal with prosecutors in which Jackson will receive a fine of less than $1,000 and around 80 hours of community service, according to his attorney Cole Casey. Jackson originally faced two misdemeanor counts related to his driving with a suspended license, plus an infraction of driving with expired registration. Jackson pleaded to one misdemeanor. Casey said the other charges have been dismissed as part of the deal.

“Vince just wants to get ready to play football this season, and he doesn’t want to have a lot of this legal stuff hanging over his head,” Casey said.

The NFL is still reviewing his case, according to a league spokesman. Because of Jackson’s two DUIs since 2006, Jackson is likely to face a suspension this fall under the league’s substance abuse policy.

His license had been suspended as a result of his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving in January 2009. Jackson had been on probation for a previous DUI conviction from 2006 and pleaded guilty on his 2009 DUI case this past February. For this most recent DUI, Jackson received four days of roadside trash pickup, five years of probation, 15 days of community service and a $2,408 fine.

Casey said Jackson has completed all of his required roadside trash pickup and community service from that sentence.

“He picked up trash on the freeways and did every day of it, every single day of it without a peep,” Casey said.

Casey said Jackson’s punishment on the suspended license conviction is standard for such a charge.

Jackson was pulled over near Chargers headquarters Jan. 17 after a San Diego Police officer said he heard loud music coming from Jackson’s car on Murphy Canyon Road. It is against the law in California to “operate any sound amplification system which can be heard outside the vehicle from 50 or more feet” when driving, except for certain circumstances.

Jackson was pulled over at 10:01 a.m. He was not cited for the noise violation but was handcuffed and released, allowing him to play in the 17-14 loss against the Jets, which started at 1:40 p.m. Jackson finished the game with seven catches for 111 yards.

...

No matter the length of the suspension, it would effect his status for the opener against us.

Sorry if repost, but I didn't see it.

Although I'd love for him to miss the KC game, I want KC to prove they can win when the opposing team has all their key players.

SD has a good enough team w/out Jackson I think. If you guys win that will still prove a lot.

Keep in mind we have Antonio Gates and Malcom Floyd. Legedu Nanee is pretty good too.

Regardless, this is going to be an extremely tough game for San Diego to win.

First time in years that the Chiefs will be on MNF, a completely renovated stadium packed to limit with crazy Chief fans AND, San Diego has been a notoriously slow to start the season under Norv.

The Chargers are 2-1 week 1 under Norv, they usually struggle between week 2 and week 5 under him.

Either way, I'm not counting it as an instant win or anything, but I still think it is going to be a tougher game for the Chiefs to win than the Chargers.

Adding Berry and Arenas, then SD losing Jackson is gonna give us fits in the passing game if we can get any kind of pressure on Rivers.

Should be a good game!

Predicting the stat of this first game of the season: Chiefs put Ryan Mathews on the map as he runs over NT Glenn Dorsey and the swiss cheese linebackers for 150+ rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.

The only problem there is Dorsey doesn't suck at stopping the run..

And that Shaun Smith will be our NT who also doesn't suck at stopping the run..

Were they opening on the road? No offense, just a legitimate question and I'm not interested enough to do a search.

The one game they lost was a last second TD to end the game against the Panthers (the year the Panthers lost to the Cards in the playoffs).

The other one was when they beat the Bears at home who just came off the super bowl, and last year they beat Oakland in Oakland on MNF, with a full packed crowd, on a last minute TD.

Also the year Steve Smith was suspended for punching a teammate, meaning he didn't play in that game and San Diego still lost despite being at home and the other team not having their best player.

Just to be thorough and all.

I think Eric will have ATLEAST 1 INT against Rivers. Maybe 2. I'm trying not to be a homer, but I believe Rivers will forget that we actually have a playmaker in KC now.

I'm perfectly content to win every game against injury-ravaged teams. Bring on the fourth-teamers.

The Chiefs better hope that the Chargers go on one of their patented slow starts, because if they start the season out hot like the Broncos always do you are fucked.

It all depends on Matt Cassel. If he looks like a quarterback, we have a legit chance at a victory. If he looks like Matt Cassel, we are screwed no matter how well the defense plays.

that guy is a huge difference maker, and if he is out they will have a more limited number of offensive threats. Whould make our secondary look good on opening day

I've heard Cassel has been at Arrowhead all offseason working out and learning the Charlie Weis offense. I've also heard he put on about 10 pounds of muscle so he can throw further than 20 yards.

Cool, now he'll over/under throw the ball by 10 yards instead of the 5 he had last year! Progress! :)

First NFL game ever under the MNF lights. Better be prepared to let the kid have his "oh my god everyone is so fast" and "shit shit shit what's my assignment in this package?" moments. Greatness comes with playing time in the Sunday league.
