Ok, I almost never post but I've been here forever. I'm looking for man drink recipes. Not sugary, fruity flit boy drinks. I drink whiskey sometimes with water and beer. I want the cp collective to help me compile a list of shots and drinks that I wouldn't be embarassed to drink. Let's have em hook me up.

Dirty Martini
3 oz vodka
1 oz dry vermouth
1/2 oz olive brine

Rusty Nail
1 1/2 oz. Scotch
1/2 oz. Drambuie

Serve over ice with a lemon twist.

Black Russian
1 3/4 oz. Vodka
3/4 oz. Kahlua

Serve over ice.

Gin Martini.
Just gin and vermouth.

Mint Julep recipe

4 fresh mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water

The Manhattan:

2 oz blended whiskey
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
1/2 oz dry vermouth
1 dash bitters

Citron press

Rocks glass
Ice
Three Fingers Absolute Citron
Splash of 7up
Splash of Soda

Rye and Ginger
shot of rye over ice in a tall glass, fill w/ginger ale.

Manhattans
(1 part sweet vermouth, 3 or 4 parts rye, dash of bitters)

Horse's Neck (with a Kick)

2 oz Blended whiskey
Ginger ale
Peel rind of whole lemon in a spiral fashion and put into Collins glass with one end hanging over the rim. Fill glass with ice cubes. Add blended whiskey. Then fill with ginger ale and stir well.

Drink whatever the hell you enjoy drinking for a particular occasion. Let others worry about what the hell they think it means. Countless hours of my former life as a bartender were wasted listening to assholes go on and on about what was or wasn't a macho enough drink. If you like it drink it.

I am prone to drink the following...

Hendricks Gin + Tonic (favorite)
Beer
White Russian
Ciroc Vodka + Tonic
Ciroc Vodka + Cranberry

Ok, So I now realize that I focused too much on the Manly and not enough on the Not fruity and sugary. I could care less about the manly side, I just don't enjoy drinks that are super sweet or fruit filled.

I have just been in a rut and I have a friend coming over tonight to shoot pool while our wifes are at a F@%Kerware party. And I'm looking for a new drink that won't get tedious quickly.

I have a "full" bar but almost never drink anything but beer or whiskey sometimes scotch sometimes bourbon but mostly beer. I don't normally mix with softdrinks, usually water or rocks.

Beer and tomato or clamato juice. I like about 2 parts beer to 1 part juice.

Ant the bloody mary, of course, is a manly man's drink.

Tall glass filled with ice
Fresh squeezed lemon and lime, about a half of each - squeeze the juice over the ice cubes, not into the drink. Yes, it matters.
Celery salt, to taste
Worcestershire, a dash
Tabasco (preferred brand for BM)
Vodka - 1/3
Tomato or V-8 Juice - 1/3
Clamato - 1/3

The 1/3 vodka might be a little strong. Depends on the user.

Mix well and garnish with lime wedge. I like the glass rimmed with Old Bay seasoning.

Drink 3, skip dinner.

I like to take a drink now and then, but w/various ailments I'm in the 'quality not quantity' category of drinking these days. Sounds like you're pretty well set up w/the bar...let me make a few suggestions that might give you a little more variety for not much money.

Go buy a couple of small bottles of the best vermouth you can find. I like Martini & Rossi sweet (red) and Noilly Pratt dry (white) but Vya of either persuasion is very, very good. I used to buy larger bottles of cheap brands w/ the 'some good/more better' theory in mind. But I was wrong. The stuff can oxidize over time, so it's better to buy a smaller bottle of better vermouth, and keep extra unopened bottles on hand. The gin can't go bad, but the vermouth can. If you like Manhattans, Rob Roys or Martinis, see what better vermouth can do.

Buy some bitters. Angostura is 'the standard' and aside from a recent shortage it's available anywhere. You may have to shop around, but try to add Peychaud's and Regan's Orange bitters if you can find them (I buy both online from the Buffalo Trace website - their shipping price is the same for 4 bottles as it is for 1, so I buy extra and share). Bitters are 'flavoring agents' for spirits, as the name implies they're 'bitter' by themselves but they add aroma and different tastes to whiskey or gin. I like all 3 in different drinks - I recommend orange bitters in a martini, esp. if you like Beefeater's or similar 'citrus' gins. The Peychaud's I use to make a Sazerac cocktail, the angostura goes w/almost anything else...and can really help cure an upset stomach. There are other bitters out there, Fee bros. in NYC make an assortment but I don't find them locally. An inexpensive way to add taste and variety.

With these on the bar, buy a bottle of rye whiskey - I have several 'spendy' bottles of rye (and like 'em) but I always have a lot of Old Overholt on hand. It's really cheap, an old label that's still made, 80 proof and it's tasty. You can spend more on older or stronger rye, but start w/this one. Rye isn't so much for 'shots' or sipping on the rocks. But you can add some flavoring agents to it and make several really tasty drinks. Try a shot of rye over ice in a tall glass, fill w/ginger ale. Rye and Ginger is what the 'gangsters' always order in those old B&W movies - they knew what they were doing. I use rye to make Manhattans (1 part sweet vermouth, 3 or 4 parts rye, dash of bitters) and vastly prefer it over bourbon manhattans - it was originally a rye drink, but prohibition really killed off aged rye. There are some folks who claim the original cocktail was the Sazerac, which was once made w/brandy but now rye, a little simple syrup, a little bit of absinthe or Pernod rolled around in a glass just to flavor it, and a dash of Peychaud's bitters. It's one of my favorite cocktails when I'm in New Orleans.

Canadian is still sometimes called rye whiskey, in the old days they used mostly rye in the mash blend. Long story short, with several bottles of American rye on my shelf, when I open a bottle of Crown and pour the first shot - I refill the bottle w/a shot of Old Overholt or Wild Turkey rye. Adds some 'spice' to the taste of the Crown (which is a little 'tame' for me). YMMV, of course, but if you've got a bottle of rye and a bottle of Canadian try adding a dash of rye to a shot of your Canadian. See if you like it. My cousin is a Crown drinker, I converted him to this 1 shot rye/1 bottle crown thing years ago.

Any drink is a man drink if you're secure enough in your masculinity to drink it.

If you think you're manlier for drinking something that tastes like shit, you're a blockhead who probably has a gun rack on his pickup truck.

I absolutely agree. I never understood why fruit flavored drinks are labeled "girly". Fruit flavored stuff is delicious. To me the difference between a girl drink or a man drink is how strong it is. I'll drink the fuck out of some margaritas, long islands, koolaid and everclear, whatever.

I want the cp collective to help me compile a list of shots and drinks that I wouldn't be embarassed to drink. Let's have em hook me up.

Dirty Martini
3 oz vodka
1 oz dry vermouth
1/2 oz olive brine

Yes, must be shaken.

Rusty Nail
1 1/2 oz. Scotch
1/2 oz. Drambuie

Serve over ice with a lemon twist.

Another Yes

Black Russian
1 3/4 oz. Vodka
3/4 oz. Kahlua

Serve over ice.

Only if you're a man trying to let other men know that you like men.

Gin Martini.
Just gin and vermouth.

Man drink

Mint Julep recipe

4 fresh mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water

Is your name Liberace?

The Manhattan:

2 oz blended whiskey
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
1/2 oz dry vermouth
1 dash bitters

Man drink and delicious to boot

Citron press

Rocks glass
Ice
Three Fingers Absolute Citron
Splash of 7up
Splash of Soda

Nice summer drink. good call.

Rye and Ginger
shot of rye over ice in a tall glass, fill w/ginger ale.

Yes!

Manhattans
(1 part sweet vermouth, 3 or 4 parts rye, dash of bitters)

Again,Yes but is this one different then the one mentioned above?

Horse's Neck (with a Kick)

2 oz Blended whiskey
Ginger ale
Peel rind of whole lemon in a spiral fashion and put into Collins glass with one end hanging over the rim. Fill glass with ice cubes. Add blended whiskey. Then fill with ginger ale and stir well.

Intersting

In red above.

Also depends on the occaison. If you are BBQing, then beer first, scotch/bourbons later with a cigar. If you are out at a bar, beer, maybe even guinness. I try not to drink too much hard liqueor while out at a bar due to wanting to maintain a sense of my surroundings. If you are out to a dinner that doesn't involve McDonalds, learn to drink wine. And decent wine too, not Boones farm. Pre-dinner drinks should include a martini, bourbon / scotch, vodka / gin tonic, or something along those lines. After dinner drinks should be Brandys, Tuaca / Amaretto / Frangelico on the rocks, B-52 (Grand Marnier, Kahlua and Bailys layered in a glass on the rocks), or coffee drinks. A conversation starter with the hot bartender would be a Steamy Duck Fart (Bailys, Kahlua and coffee. Crown Royal around the rim of the glass.) This drink is delicious and always breaks the ice.

If you like american whiskey, summer time is a great time to try some Basil Hayden's. It like a bourbon, but made with wheat. Light and refreshing, perfect for a summer afternoon.

Also, PBR is never ok. And Jim Beam is pretty much out as well. Now some of the better Jim Beam products (Bookers and Bakers) are delicious.

You are right -- a lot of guys do order them. The post above yours advocated Knob Creek and Coke. Just not my style.

My list in order of preference:

Scotch
Wine (with a good meal)
Beer
Margarita
Martini (Gin or Vodka)
Gin and Tonic
Vodka Tonic

Manhattan (I've moved away from these the last couple of years)

If Scotch didn't exist, I'd probably find an Irish Whiskey or Bourbon that I really liked. I prefer the dryness of Scotch though.

Jim Beam is aged longer than Jack Daniels by a near exponential amount. Four years for the base Beam versus 18 months for the Jack Black. The only difference between standard Jim Beam and their premium products - Bookers/Bakers/Haydens/Knob Creek, is the aged and cutting/distillation process. They all come from the same production method however.

Evan Williams is an excellent intro bourbon.

If you want to step up to a longer aged drink while not breaking the bank, I'd suggest Elijah Craig, which is a 12 year old kentucky bourbon of very good character. (As a comparison, the high end of the Beam family, Bookers, is aged approximately seven years on average.)

The first Manhattan listed w/both sweet and dry vermouth is called a 'perfect' manhattan - your second manhattan is my version (w/rye), you'll note that a Rob Roy is basically a manhattan w/Scotch instead of rye/bourbon/blended. And for that matter, a martini is pretty much the same drink w/gin & dry vermouth. It's probably worth trying 1 part vermouth, 3 parts any liquor you choose and a dash of bitters if you're ever wanting to create a signature cocktail.

I'll recommend one last drink that I like in the summertime. The Negroni...The Negroni cocktail is made of 1 part gin, 1 part sweet vermouth, and 1 part bitters, traditionally Campari. It may not be everyone's cuppa chai - I didn't like the first sip, but it grew on me. Like a fungus. They're bitter as my ex wife, but like her they have their good points, too. I drink these in the summer as well as Martinis, Rusty Nails in the winter along w/Rob Roys. Manhattans and various 'sipping' quality rums or bourbons, served up, year round. Tonite, for instance, a pour of Wild Turkey 'Rare Breed'. Good stuff.

As for Jim Beam being aged longer. Well, IMHO, bacon wrapped shit, is still just bacon wrapped shit. Jim Beam tastes like crap, no matter how long it's aged. Perhaps their barrels are funky, or how they go about their distilling process or it could be low grade ingredients. In any case Jack beats the crap out of Jim Beam. I will however go with the notion that it's just personal preference.

Elija Craig is good, I have had that before. Thomas Jefferson Reserve is a really nice bourbon. An easy one to drink that is not expensive is Buffalo Trace. One I will NOT recommend is 1796. I know a lot of people like it, but I personaly think it's shite.
