was at the game last night and saw the display afterwards. got me to wondering a couple things, and thought someone on here might have an answer for me.

1) who pays for the firework displays on Fridays? The Royals? Hy-Vee? Split?

2) what's the cost per show?

who pays for the firework displays on Fridays?

Most likely you and the 20,000 other fans out there that night.

3) Why do you care?

curious if the money was substantial enough that it would better spent elsewhere.

the cost of fireworks (cardboard and gunpowder) to a baseball team is almost irrelevant. Most minor league teams also have firework shows. Also, given that fireworks are cheap, when you really look at the show and mentally compare it to a city firework show, it isn't nearly as big, except maybe the once a year KC sky show or whatever they call it. So even on the cheap scale of firework shows, we're talking a small show.

I also think the firework shows are "sponsered" by some company to get their name mentioned when it is promoted. (Doesn't seem to work, I can barely remember who. Hy-Vee?)

edit: found this, for what its worth. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070610150245AAvd4D0

If that is accurate, and some of the best shows in the country (also running a massive 45 minutes long) costs about $50,000, then how much could the Friday night KC shows possibly cost? A few thousand? $10,000 at most? A full season of shows (again, assuming the sponser doesn't pay a dime, which I seriously doubt) would not make a dent in payroll. That also assumes the lack of the show wouldn't impact attendence, but lets get real here, a lot less people would show up on Friday night without the show.

I thought it was common sense that fans pay for this stuff...

The Royals write the final check, but that expense is built into the sponsorship package plus 10 to 20% markup.
