OK, this stuff is pretty moving and bad ass. I just noticed this in a friends facebook stream... vivid and really philosophically badass.

They take freethinkers, scientists and philosophers video discussions, they add some effects to the voice, add some house/trance-ish beats to it... some awesome visuals and you get an epic mind-blowing video

We are all connected, to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, to the universe atomically. ♪♫

I spend a little time thinking about the cosmos, daily. When it boils down to it, we are all connected, so the infighting, hatred and greed really doesn't make sense. We have to evolve out of this thought process as a civilization or else we will soon become extinct like the dinosaurs...

and that would be a pity, especially if we are "the only" intelligent life in the universe.

Also, if we are "the only intelligent life in the universe", well the universe isn't as smart as initially thought. lol

Yeah, they're awesome videos.

Minor downside: copyright owners of Cosmos have said he needs to stop using their footage. I'd like to find the person who made that decision and punch him in the face. If there's anything to get people to actually watch a 70s non-fiction show, it's a remix version with auto-tune. It's not infringing on shit. Bad PR move by Cosmos owners.

I find this interested as - the videos initially made me want to watch the originals

Much like the universe on the large and very vast scale (i.e., general relativity), so the universe on the small scale (i.e., quantum mechanics) does not neatly conform to the rules of classical physics. As such, it presents a set of rules that is counterintuitive and difficult to understand for the human mind, as humans are accustomed to the world on a scale dominated by classical physics. In other words, quantum mechanics deals with "Nature as She is—absurd."[1]

I wish someone would take my mind and teach me this since it has been unspoiled by previous physics instruction - I have Zero Physics background and I am very interested in it - also in part thanks to the big bang theory - the tv show not the theory

Since ChiefsPlanet is the only "bulletin board" on which I post, I decided to expand my horizons and contribute a comment on the IMDB message board. I have now learned that not all board rules are alike. Who knew?

It was an unfortunate experience, to say the very least. My "crime" was merely to declare a person over there to be a testicle licking midget rapist. As punishment, I received an immediate ban. The moderator informed me that it's in their rules, or something ... about how you can't call people testicle licking midget rapists and all. Whatever. The target of my declaration was one, however. The guy was saying some really stupid and outrageous things about NCIS's last episode and Gibbs' motivations for encouraging Abby to pursue the forensics report associated with the killing of the Mexican drug lord. Clearly, no one but a testicle licking midget rapist would entertain those kind of thoughts, but it appears as though those guys over there are either extremely testicle licking midget rapist tolerant, or they're all testicle licking midget rapists.

Appreciating the complexities and miracles of life and the world is one thing; going all drama queen over quantum mechanics and worshipping science like a teen-age groupie is quite another. But, hey, reasonable people should be able to disagree. Though with too many wingtards these days that doesn't seem possible...

Being critical of science is just dumb. Science is a process to uncover the truth, you might as well be critical of logic and rational thought, it's literally the same thing.

Okay so that video is awesome and I went looking for more information about this. What I find is this awesome lecture by Dr. Lewin:
http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Physics/8-01Physics-IFall1999/VideoLectures/detail/embed34.htm

The explanation for this behavior is thus:
Heisenbergs uncertainty principle states that you cannot know a particles position and velocity at the same time down to a point, and in fact the more precisely you know an objects position, the less precisely you can know it's velocity and vice versa.

In the case of these beams of light we are increasing the precision that we know a given photons position in the X dimension (perpendicular to the slit) by narrowing the slit... as a result we see a corresponding decrease in the precision that we can know the photons velocity in the x dimension. This causes photons passing through the slit to have randomly varying speeds in the X dimension resulting in them spreading out to the left and right of the slit.

In fact, since we know the precise width of the slit the precise width of the spread can be calculated by using Heisenburgs equation to find the maximum possible range of speeds and then calculating the resulting angle that the maximum speed would give.

Wow, the "We are all connected" video has like 2 million views. This is viral, social media marketing at it's finest. You can't get better than this... and it's free.

in fact, it inspired me to find the Cosmos torrent and check out the series, as I hadn't really heard of Carl Sagan, before.

Most companies just don't get social media and how it can impact their revenues...

How about opening up the archives for a whole new generation of seekers to find you?

Or how about telling the guy who is helping make Cosmos relevant again, to STFU and STFD. Retarded.
