I could live with that, but hubby is a bit bigger than me and said if he couldn't sleep, he was going to turn it on in the middle of the night. I told him go ahead and turn it on. It was rather humid and stuffy in the house today

Nope, but all I have is a wall unit. Not too effective, so it's a last resort. Usually just leave windows open and fans on. Also have a pool to jump in if things get out of hand.

If it's 80+ degrees outside and it isn't breezy; the A/C is getting turned on. There are a few things in life you can tough out, but when I'm at home I like to be comfortable.

The thing that sucks about turning on the AC is the whole heating up and cooling down of the house. I love the fresh air so once it cools down some, like in the morning I will shut it off and open up the house. Then once the house heats up I will crank the AC on and shut the house up. But then the AC has to cool down the house, which is harder on your AC unit. I know a few people that once they turn it on it stays on to keep the house at a constant temp for the entire summer. They claim it is cheaper and easier on the AC. I believe that but I get tired of not having fresh air breeze through the house.

Mine's been on for weeks, and now that it was finally hot today, it's not working. 78 in my apartment right now. Have the windows open, hoping it will cool off enough in the next 3-4 hours that I'll be able to sleep. I can't sleep if it's over 70.

No A/C - and no need for it. Temps generally 30 degrees overnight here in Denver, so an attic fan running through the night is all you really need. Still, there can be 2 weeks or so of the year that are uncomfortable.

Western Colorado and everyone here uses swamp coolers (evaporative coolers). The low humidity here lets them work extremely well and ours has been on for about the last month or so.

I went to college for a reason. If I didn't make money to ensure that I could rest comfortably in my own home, then what the hell do I go to work for?

When I get hot, I turn that sucker on. If it gets cold again, I just turn it off.

I've never understood the idea behind waiting until June to turn on the AC out of fear you'll see another cold snap. Just turn the damn thing back off if it gets cold.

If I'm looking to save money, I'll cut back on a lot of things before I start adjusting how comfortable my house is. I take no pride in sweating while watching television to save a quarter on my utility bills that day.

Mine has been running non-stop for like a the last week....

besides being in Florida, I have huge windows that face the sun all day. It gets REALLY hot up stairs and the A/C runs like crazy. About to move into a smaller place away from the sun, which should help considerably with summer A/C costs.

The amount of mosture in the air (humidity) is what takes the time, and is the reason most units are a bit undersized by design. Being a wee bit small, therefore it has to run longer to get to the temperature setpoint. The longer it runs, the more moisture (and the btu's contained within) are removed.

Wanna speed up the process? If you own a dehumidifier, fire it up (as close to a return air duct the better) and it will greatly speed up the process.

I did the same in my office ... looks like summer might be the coldest time of year considering how easy winter was this year, much different than than last few winters ..... went to Silverwood for their dry run day and it was jacket weather if you rode the coasters.

We usually go to Silverwood in October. Half price tickets and no crowds as well as nice weather in the 60's. We went the first weekend in October last year and absolutely froze our asses off. It was 34° and windy. Fortunately, it was nice when we went again the weekend before last (busy, though). One of the very few nice days we have had so far.

I did enjoy not snow blowing last winter, though. :thumb:
