I have a 92 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 liter engine with automatic transmission, and need a vacuum diagram for it. I lost a vacuum line off of it yesterday, it immediately began running rough and not idling well, and when I lifted the hood to check it out I noticed two of the nipples (?) did not have lines attached to them. I found one of the hoses that had dropped down a few inches and re-attached it. This immediately solved the rough idling. But upon further inspection I could not locate the other line.

When I went to drive it I noticed that it would no longer shift. IF I started with the selector in first then manually shifted it to second it would do that. But it will not shift into Drive or OD at all.

So I'm assuming that the vacuum line should be running to the transmission to assist with the automatic Trans. But for the life of me I can not find the missing hose or were it was connected at the other end.

I've been searching on-line for a diagram to assist me but now luck. Any Ideas???

Where's Bwana when you need him?

The problem with these things is they vary from year to year, and even sometimes from one manufacturing plant to another, so whatever you find may not be the same as what you have.

Look around on our transmission. You'll likely find the other end plugged into the vacuum modulator.

Go with what bugeater says.

Theres usually a vacumn diagram sticker in the engine compartment. I'd look ALL OVER for that.

Well there used to be a sticker...but it's pretty much all ripped off. :grr:

And have looked, and felt were I couldn't see, all over the transmission & still no luck:banghead:

I hate the thought that I might have to take it to the shop or mechanic over a simple .10 vacuum hose.

Just get a garden hose, stick one end in your tail pipe and the other in your gas tank and give the engine a little rev. Should solve the shifting problem.

Taking my car in next week. Not excited.

It is a Ford Explorer Sport...when I am on the highway it really sways from left to right like...out of control almost.

And there is some friction on my breaks that doesn't feel good.
