This month there are a bunch of photos showing just how much progress has been made in completing the renovation to the mother ship that is Arrowhead Stadium. I know and understand that there are a few people that live in Jackson County that believe the taxpayers have been taken advantage of but from what I have seen so far I would have to disagree. I think the people of Jackson County can be proud that they'll have a stadium that is looking pretty awesome. That of course is just my opinion.
Exterior work is focused on the plazas on the north and south sides of the stadium as well as the landscaping along Lancer Lane and Red Coat Lane. On the Plaza Level Final touches are being completed on the children’s area, team store and membership lounge on the north side of the stadium. Construction continues to convert the old press box on the south side with new suites. The Club Level Flooring installation continues with a majority of the carpeting installed. Work continues on the owner’s suite and the new suites in the location of the old press box. Progress continues on the club lounges on the north and south sides. Upper Concourse Work is progressing on the food service areas on the north and south sides. Horizon Level/Press Box Finish work is well underway on both levels. Ceilings are being installed, walls are being painted and cleaning of construction debris in is full force. On the Press Level, the new scoreboard control equipment is being tested.

Lets take a look at what this jewel of the Midwest will look like for the Monday Night Football game against San Diego.

I drove around the stadium a couple of weeks ago - I can't say I'm much of a fan of how they ruined the symmetry of the stadium, but it doesn't look quite as bad as I thought it would.

I still wish they'd add shit to the north side to balance it out.

Not too shabby, I suppose.

Now, I just wish the surrounding neighborhood was renovated.

Went to a Spoyals game a little while back and gazed at the stadium for a good while in the parking lot and I just kept thinking to myself, "self, how cool would that look if all that aluminum/reflective metal was red?" I know its a maintenance and a "green effort" and all, but seriously, how dope would that place look with ALL red seats, and that entire metal circumference was fire engine red??? I know it doesn't sound like all that much, but if I was the opposing team....I don't want to go in there, it would just look like power and doom.

It looks like the love child of outdoor Soldier Field and indoor "University of Phoenix" stadium, or whatever they call what the Cardinals play in now.

Is it me, or do the concourses not look that much wider..at least the pic of the upper level?
I guess you can't really see the whole picture, but still...i was expecting the wider concourse to be obvious.

When I said "trendy" i was referring to the interior design and graphics. I agree though, there needs to be something on the other side of the new, what are they, press boxes?

They are, especially on the LL. I went to three games last year and was pleasantly surprised with the interior.

The upper level is considerably wider as well.

Not a fan of the outside work though, as noted.

Soldier Field is just awful. I guess it's okay from the inside if you have decent seats, but if you're up in the nosebleed section on the west side, you practically need a sherpa to get to your seat. Horrible seats, clearly intended for the masses yet still expensive as hell.

Much like the Cubs, the Bears have raised fucking their fans to an art form.

I didn't pay for it, but I'd say no.

The people paying $300 in the club level have some really nice amenities, up there with the newest stadiums, but for the average fan, I think the design and destruction of history takes away from the bigger concourses and bathrooms for the average fan.

Had I known then what I know now, I almost would have wanted them to scrap the old Arrowhead and start over, using the old design as a template.

They basically did 95% of this work for the wine and cheese crowd.

For what it's worth, the all red idea from earlier is pretty kick ass, IMO.

I could live with all the fucking metal if it were all red, and the seats were all red and gold on the inside.

it looks exactly how it is; a stadium with a strange redsign around an existing stadium.

bleah...

went to a game last year on the lower level...I guess it's 'better'; went to an game on the upper and it was a good deal better with regard to conourse space, vendors etc.

I'm having a hard tim determining if it was worth $250 or whatever it cost.
It'll look especially cool by week 3 and the grass is all chewed up and dead / spray painted green.

to be honest I think they completely ruined Arrowhead. They should have just went the whole 10 yds and building a brand new stadium instead of half assing it.

Same with Kauffman. Yes it's nice, but I think they should have placed it downtown in the same area as Sprint Center is etc. Then use that entire Truman Sports Complex lot for a big new Arrowhead.

But we're Jackson county, which means everythings done half assed.

from my seat in 124 last year; my overall game experience was the same.
'experience' being places to buy beer, food etc; lines for such. the only thing that was slightly improved was the bathrooms/lines. not too bad.

...but when the only effect of a $250M renovation you feel is the bathrooms....yeah, you're doing it wrong.

Well, if it makes you guys feel any better, Qualcomm Stadium is a complete POS. I got a tour before a Chiefs/Chargers game down in that leaky, stinky SOB. That thing needs a complete overhaul from the inside-out.

This is what has me completely unimpressed with the "New" Arrowhead. And the fact that they're advertising it as if it were a totally new stadium...

But I'm glad they didn't start over from scratch, as the bowl would be shaped very differently, and the acoustics would most likely suck compared to the current shape.

true.

I'm just surprised with all the hype that's been coming from Arrowhead about the renovations for the last few years, and whatever Clark pimped Goddell with to get the home opener on TV........I'm just not seeing it.

if the renovation aspect is what Clark was pushing with the NFL to get on MNF (we allk now the team hasn't been worthy of it in a long time)...the Goddell will probably be like me when he saw it..."meah....."

I'm sure that any stadium that is as old a the Q and Arrowhead have significant internal infrastructure issues.

I had an all-access pass to the old Busch Stadium the day after the last season ended, and while they did a decent job sprucing up the parts the paying customer sees, the rest was a fucking pit.

At some point, you have to decide if you want to just keep putting Band-Aids on the problems, or just start from scratch.

I'm betting it would have ultimately been more financially responsible to start over with Arrowhead, but there would have been a PR nightmare concerning the folks worried more about tradition.

They'll have to bulldoze the place eventually.

They ruled out doing an overhaul of Qualcomm. They have been screwing around for 8 years trying to come up with a site and plan to build a new stadium. If they ever do there is no way that they will get public funding for it. The Chargers need to just move to LA now and get it over with.
