They have security guards at Applebee's? I wonder if it was a rough neighborhood or something. I think Prince George's County is relatively affluent, though.

It's a tragedy, regardless of the circumstances. I wish our society was safer.

That's why I get so angry at the anti gun crowd. They like to trash those of us with ccw's or just gun owners in general and almost make it out as if we're adding to the problem. At the end of the day the thugs/criminals are gonna always have guns/weapons regardless of the laws.

Sorry bro. The first time I saw one of my own fallen officers, it hurt bad. May God be with his family.....

my wife is not taking this very well. I work alot of secondary employment as security because we keep getting pay cuts from the Maryland State Government. It is a shame we even have to work extra to try and make ends meet.

First off and most important I am sorry for the loss of a man with honor to a gutless shitbag. To your point these weak minded liberials keep making more laws for people who OBEY the law who want to own a gun, and any halfwit knows outlaws do not OBEY laws~

That was actually my first thought. Why does an officer of the law have to work a second job? Sounds like you guys are spread thin and your state is not taking care of you....This might be the time to consider relocating if you are able to do so. Again, I am sorry for the loss of a brother in arms.

I have no idea, but the worst thing I think men do is try to stuff it down with whiskey or being a tough guy. It always comes out somewhere else. Ugh and the resentments my ego always says 'this isn't a resentment' I have to keep my emotions out on paper so I can take a look at what is really going on. I would encourage anyone that goes through hard times to really write out and step back from what is going on. Makes life easier to cope. Sometimes I am in my head and I don't know if I am happy or sad...and there is plenty of help out there to work on pushing through the tough times, but you know men. I'M A FUCKING HARD ASS>>>I FIGHT AND SHOOT GUNS ARRRR.

They do there best to keep it to a minimum. If they can do a schedule change to eliminate OT they will.

Yes they have surveillance, but only of the inside. A "person of interest" is shown in surveillance video, who the Trooper escorted out earlier in the evening.

One of the saddest fugging things you will ever hear is the last radio call at a cop's funeral. Dispatcher calls for the fallen officer over the car radios three times, no answer, then silence and a final salute. I'm tearing up remembering it.

I remember when a Maryland State Trooper was shot and killed during a traffic stop on I-95. Must have been about 20 years ago. The funeral procession was incredible, people lining the roads, the highway overpasses, police officers and their vehicles were there from literally all over the country. I found a spot to stand and watch and pay my respects about a half mile from the cemetery. Just being nearby was a heart wrenching and emotional experience. I'll never forget it.

grimes82, do you remember that? I don't recall the officer's name but if you were a trooper than I'm sure you do.

Ya I think so, I believe that was Eddie Plank. Happened on the Eastern Shore... was shot in the head when he approached the driver. Not sure it was quite 20 years... maybe 15 or so...

Not sure if that is the same one you are talking about.

No, but it may have been before your time. Ask some of the older guys, they'll remember. I know it happened on I-95.

A cop killer just got convicted here in New Mexico but he hasn't been sentenced yet. The death penalty was recently outlawed here but this POS isn't eligible for the new law. Hope he fries.

I didn't work at this particular Bennigans...but one of the Bennigans close to the one I worked at had full time security to make sure people paid their bills and didn't cause trouble...a friend of mine said it was INSANE and every table had automatic 15% gratuity added to it...regardless of whether there was 1 customer or 50...

Can you guess what type of clientele this restaurant had?

I'll give you one guess...

and one hint...

It rhymes with a bunch of "tiggers"...

Two arrests made in killing of trooper at Prince George's restaurant
The Associated Press

3:39 PM EDT, June 14, 2010

Prince George's County police said Monday they have charged two men in the slaying of an off-duty Maryland state trooper outside a restaurant last week.

Deputy Chief Kevin Davis said Cyril Cornelius Williams, 27, and Anthony Anderson Milton II, 28, both of Seat Pleasant, have been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 24-year-old Trooper Wesley Brown.

"We believe we have arrested the shooter," Davis said at a news conference with Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and other officials. "We believe we've arrested all principal suspects."

Brown was shot early Friday while working as a security guard at an Applebee's restaurant. Brown, who wore a jacket that identified him as an officer, was talking on a phone in the parking lot at the time, state police said.

Officials did not identify which man pulled the trigger, but said they recovered a semiautomatic handgun that was used in the shooting. Davis said Williams was the original person of interest whom Brown had escorted out of the restaurant over a dispute involving an unpaid bill.

Davis said the motive of the killing was because Williams was upset. He said the men did not know Brown before the incident.

Both men have extensive criminal records. Williams was being held in Baltimore and was initially taken into custody on a parole and probation violation. Milton was being held at the county jail.

Milton's bond review is scheduled for Tuesday in Prince George's County. A court hearing has not yet been set for Williams.

Covered in blood, Brown made it back inside the restaurant and passed out, police said. Officials said that Brown was wearing a vest, but it did not stop the bullet from entering Brown's upper body and hitting his heart. He died at a hospital.

Police said tips from the public helped identify and locate the suspects. But they said they still need help in the investigation. A reward of up to $75,000 on information still being offered.

"We still need folks to come forward with information," Davis said.

State Police Superintendent Col. Terrence Sheridan said Brown was "showing great potential." He said officials told Brown's grieving family of the arrests.

"This is a bittersweet moment for us all," Sheridan said. "This was a bad day for the Maryland State Police."

O'Malley said: "There's no way to make sense of madness and cruelty."

Brown's cousin said Brown had eight older sisters and an older brother. He was recently engaged to be married.

State police said funeral services for Brown will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jericho City of Praise in Landover followed by burial at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Suitland.

My condolences and prayers to the family and all the officers who put it on the line every day.

What in the world did they shoot with that went right through his vest? I'm assuming it was supposedly a bullet proof vest since it was mentioned in the article.

"Officials said that Brown was wearing a vest, but it did not stop the bullet from entering Brown's upper body and hitting his heart. He died at a hospital."

What a tragedy. He was a man but at 24 he was also still just a kid.

PG county is kind of varied though. You can have nice areas and then pretty bad areas where it runs into some of the worse parts of DC.

It just missed his vest. He had his arm up talking on the phone, and the bullet went through the side of his ribs and pierced his heart.

Sorry for your loss and sorry for this officer's family.

My brother is a police officer, and although he works in a pretty small, safe city, I know there's always that chance. I hope the two men responsible for this trooper's death get put down quickly.

RIP Wesley Brown
