I cannot believe how stupid some people are. They buy some really cool stuff and pay little vs worth. I would think these people have the internet and have heard of e-bay or Craigs list~

I love the show. I think the selling of certain items at such low prices is a product of being in Las Vegas and the desire to give everything you own of value to the casinos. :D

Best part of the show is Old Man's toothless bluster.

Worst part is Pops' incessant chuckling. Does he light up a fattie before EVERY show?

The publicity that those businesses/appraisers get per appearance more than makes up for anything Rick Harrison could ever afford to pay.

To be fair, there isn't an INFINITE variety of things they review.

Lots of guns, lots of historical artifacts, some old weapons, a few motorcraft, then vintage machines in need of repair.

And their historical artifact guy is an academician , and only offers authenticity, not appraisal.

I bet it's not as easy as you think to move that stuff. It's like a burglar needs a good fence. I'm sure the pawn shop boys need to know where to sell these things. I don't think anybody on ebay is willing to pay the shipping on those big signs they seem to like.

I think the big sign guys you're talking about are the American Pickers.

And they just have to call the kinds of restaurants that require flair.

alot of it is staged. I was approached by producers of the show to be their musical instrument "expert"... but the experts are basically used to arrange the staging of something to "sell" in which they are then called in for. Turned me off completely from it. I understand its TV, but its also supposed to be "reality" as well.

is it staged like that just for the show? It kinda sounds like a tactic that a pawn shop would use.

The Old Man and Chum are what makes the show.

Rick is necessary, but if it were just him, the show wouldn't be half as good as it is.

Corey can die in a fire. Make it a forest fire. It's gotta be big enough.

corey is a cocky sumbitch. he HAS to be smarter than he plays on the show, especially if they're making money hand over fist like it looks like.

rick has that annoying little giggle he unleashes on occasion, but he's vital to the show.

old man is charmingly ancient, his annoyed looks make it worthwhile

chum HAS to be smarter than he lets on... he's funny, makes the show, but more for stupidity than anything sometimes.

I'm thinking they have it set so that if your item is appraised and they make an offer on it you have to sell it to them?

RICK “The Spotter”After 28 years in the business, Rick Harrison is an expert when it comes to spotting anything fake or stolen. As far as big-ticket items, Rick is the man for the job. Spotting a fake Cartier watch that most people would mistakenly purchase for $30,000 is just one of his many skills. Often acting as the middleman between his father and his son, Rick is the glue that holds this family and business together. Trained in the pawn business from the age of 13, Rick was born a hustler. He even dropped out of high school to pursue his $2,000-a-week business of selling fake Gucci bags. With enough money to partner with his father at the age of 23, he never looked back.

When I was living there like 5 years ago, my then Girlfriend and I went in there looking for a Digital camera. The place is really small and he had like 5-6 cameras, that was it everything else in the place was like art, and collectibles, not what you would consider a traditional pawn shop. I don't remember much else as we we only there for like 10-15 mins. tops, but I do remember Rick giving us a look at the cameras. Then last year I come across the show and see the exterior shots and thought, "I 've been in there, once they showed the interior I knew for sure, weird."
A friend of mine walks to work and walks by there everyday, he says there are lines out the door and velvet roped. Huge attraction now. The shop is located in between The Stratosphere and Fremont street, on the Las Vegas Blvd (Strip), but the neighborhood would be sketchy at best at night. A lot of low rent (by the hour) hotels, pawn shops, porn shops, and liquor stores. But anyways, cool show I love it.

And to add, had a friend who "won" on a reality tv show. . Um, yah it was built into her contract she would win.

Don't care for any of the "characters" on that show. All of em seem like douchebags IMO.
