Return To Tender: Elvis Dumervil Re-signs With Broncos
Monday, June 14, 2010
Posted By The Trenches 5:07 PM
Broncos outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil wants a bigger, longer-term contract, but for now he's settling for the one that's in front of him as a restricted free agent. Dumervil signed his first- and third-round tender worth $3.168 million on Monday, the Denver Post reports.
Dumervil, who led the NFL in sacks with 17 last season, had been seeking a deal that would make him one of the five highest-paid pass rushers in the league. While waiting for the more lucrative offer, however, he couldn't afford the potential of being reduced to making just 10 percent more than he did in 2009, or about $630,000. That was the case for him if he didn't sign his tender by Tuesday, June 15.

While Dumervil is locked up for 2010, it won't keep him and his agent from continuing to work out terms for a multiyear deal of his liking.

Why would he be worried at all about them dropping the offer to 110% of his previous salary if he really thought a long term deal was gonna get done?

I wonder if the CBA situation comes into play here?

Huh. Hopefully he'll be pissed off enough that the deal didn't get done to walk next year. I doubt it, but he's one of the only young players on the Broncos defense that scare me.

How is he a bust? Denver has a lot of good LB's so it is kind of hard to get playing time. DJ Williams, Elvis Dumervil, Mario Hagan, Robert Ayers, Akin Ayodele, Andra Davis, and Wesley Woodyard would all start over every LB on the Chiefs roster.

after seeing what tamba routinely did to clady, id take tamba and albert over clady and dumervil.

Cladys overrated and dumervils short. Tamba would have doubled his sack total had he not been held half the season and albert will show everyone that hes just fine.

Only one LB would start for the Chiefs from that list and it's Elvis.

And LB is probably the position we need the most help at.

In time you'll learn to better pick your battles... depth is not the reason Ayers is not getting more time.

He is going to start this year. Mike Mayock didn't say that three years after the 2009 draft that Ayers would be the best defensive player to come out of that draft for no reason.
