Yost says that he counts "troubles" for pitchers, and he claims they rarely get out of the third "trouble" (read: high stress or high-leverage situation).
How many "troubles" has Zach had tonight? If he's been cruising, then Yost was probably caught off-guard. If Greinke had survived a few jams, Yost would be going against his own advice if he didn't have someone up working.
"Troubles" > pitch count, according to our manager.

There was no problem running zack back out there. He just got stung by a couple singles and then a good hit. Shit happens. He probably threw more hittable pitches with a 6 run lead thinking his defense would help him out. The Sox got a couple lucky hits off of him then a big one. Shit happens.

I don't agree with the former. We needed to win the series. If we're ever going to be worth a shit, there's going to have to be a slow ascent. This team won't go from complete garbage to a contender overnight.

You hit the nail on the head with the talent of TB. The only way this season is not meaningless is if we make the playoffs or make enough of an improvement that tier one free agent talent wants to come here. The problem with this is I am not sure how invested ownership will be after the retrun on investment of some of our recent FA pickups.
Until the core of young guys is in KC I don't think winning a game or series is really going to propel the team towards the league title. If that young core was here I would agree but we have a team of vets of career minor leaguers promoted as stop gap players on the roster.

You're absolutely right that this team is loaded with scrubs, but we need to get to a certain level of respectability/mediocrity before the wave of young players advance. It's unrealistic to expect a bunch of n00bs to raise a putrid club to contenders. If we could be around .500ish, however, then it's easier to see the team taking the next step.
The last thing we need is for Hosmer, Moosetacos, Colon, etc. to be staring at a seemingly insurmountable obstacle.

I'm not even sure what he makes now, so dollars would be a huge guess. Probably in the $7 million to $11 million per year range. I would say a 2-3 year deal would be reasonable and still give the team some security should he falter. we're already willing to eat some of his contract, according to rumors. I think he's one of the best hitters we've had since Muser's watch and should be paid accordingly. At some point we need to keep the quality guys and add to them, instead of taking the cheap-ass approach. Roll the dice and pay the players that PRODUCE.

Agree on Meche, but he's still signed through next year and has zero trade value so we're pretty much stuck with him
Guillen plays better when he's got a contract to play for. I could see Meche coming back and being a productive pitcher at some point if a manager keeps him from throwing 120 pitches a game. Meche is only 31.

Agree on Meche, but he's still signed through next year and has zero trade value so we're stuck with himOrdinarily, I would agree with that approach, but at this point, I think the team needs to make a statment to the league and players in particular, that they are commited to keeping players that produce. Letting the talent walk, screams cheap, to prospective free agents, in my book. Time for the team to put up or shut-up.

That's way too much money for him. While capable of going on the occasional tear, he is driving by money. If we give him that kind of contract, he'll literally pull his hamstring jogging to the bank to cash his first check.

When is the last time this team let somebody good walk? This team hasn't been like that in 6 years. We signed Greinke, DeJesus, and Soria to long term extensions. We gave Guillen $13 million a year and now he's finally living up to it once he's on the trade block.

It's probably a moot point anyway, he doesn't sound like he wants to be here:
"This organization when I came here, it was not what I thought it was going to be, The atmosphere. I was expecting a lot of fire and winning attitude. And it wasn't any of that. None of that. I tried to say some things and do some things to change the atmosphere and then people went 'Oh, here goes Jose Guillen again.' But, hey, I don't like to babysit guys. You try to tell young guys some things, they get their feelings hurt. That's Little League stuff."
"Fundamentally, this is one of the worst teams in all of baseball. This is true, I've been here for three years. I know everything that's going on . We're one of the worst teams fundamentally. Why do we get 14 or 15 hits and we score one or two runs. How does that happen? Lack of concentration. Lack of being smart. Players think it's all about hitting home runs. Drive in runs. That's what will get them paid instead of moving the runner or getting the guy to second. I just don't see that respect for the game, moving the runners. The team I really admire is the Minnesota Twins. They do that so well. I love when we play them because that's what I want our guys to see. They (the Twins) are the smartest team in all of baseball. Them and the Angels. They do all the little things so well." (no word on how playing a guy in RF who can barely get around effects fundamentals)
"Respect for the game has been lost. That pisses me off. When you get older, you like to be around guys with winning attitudes and winning atmospheres."
BTW Jose, you're guilty of EVERYTHING you're bitching about in that little rant

He's playing lights out. I think he'll continue to tear it up. I stated originally, that UNLESS we can get some top tier prospects, I'd rather see us keep him. Take the draft pick/s. Again, we're willing to eat some of the contract now, what's the difference of risking a little more for a possibilty that he continues to tear it up? I'll take the risk versus reward. His price tag isn't breaking the bank considering his production.

This will be a good experiment - let's see what Jose does NEXT year, be it here or somewhere else, when he gets his 4 yr/55 mil contrat.
And no offense, BCF, but this is what Royals fans have become. We see a guy do "better" on this team, and don't realize that "better" for this team is usually slightly below average for the rest of the league. I've been guilty of it too, and certainly am not hating on you to want productive players, but Guillen is not worth the money nor the effort, especially with the kids we got motoring through our system.

Again..."I know this won't be popular"
He's playing lights out. I think he'll continue to tear it up. I stated originally, that UNLESS we can get some top tier prospects, I'd rather see us keep him. Take the draft pick/s. Again, we're willing to eat some of the contract now, what's the difference of risking a little more for a possibilty that he continues to tear it up? I'll take the risk versus reward. His price tag isn't breaking the bank considering his production.
I like Guillen and hate this idea. If we were a year away from contending or even coming close im on board but we are 2 at least.

1 year, $5M. Tops.
If Guillen accepts, fine. If he balks, he walks. Which would be a novelty.

That one made me literally LOL.

I'm ready for next year w/ Kila, Gordon, & Moose. I really think when Gordon comes back he's going to be a .280 25 hr guy. Too bad we have no pitchers worth a shit in the minors. Aaron Crow is sucking complete swamp ass.

Exactly. Invest a minimal amount. If he leaves? You've lost nothing but a clubhouse tumor. If he stays you risk him sulking when he doesn't get his way.

It's probably a moot point anyway, he doesn't sound like he wants to be here:
BTW Jose, you're guilty of EVERYTHING you're bitching about in that little rant
+1
If that cocksucker had done half of what he was complaining about, I'd only be half as pissed about the fact that we actually signed this douchebag........
:D

Hey, lay off our ultra-productive Guillen. In '08 and '09, he was worth a collective -16 RAR at the plate, but this year he's 17 RAR.
It's almost like we wouldn't know we'd never signed him if we'd never seen him.
So I can totally understand why someone would want to throw another fat contract at him. Because when you can flush a shit ton of money down the drain for a replacement-level player (at best), you simply have to make that move.
