but I was taking a sh*t and was reading the new ESPN the Magazine...and the Player X column totally bashed Kansas City...saying players are bummed about the All-Star game being in Kansas City since the stadium sucks and there is nothing to do in Kansas City...

I was pretty irritated when I read that...

Fuck you, Player X...

I like Kansas City a hell of a lot more than Chicago...that's for sure...

But yeah, fuck you, player X. Its probably some hippie like Bronson Arroyo.

I lived in both...

The cost of living is so much higher in Chicago it isn't even funny...

I can buy beers in KC for $2-$4...

Good luck doing that in Chi-town...even though they have some sweet ass happy hour bars...

It already sucks enough that the Royals and Chiefs always blow...I don't need anonymous player X bashing my favorite city, too...

Just leave us alone.

True; the cost of living is insanely cheaper in the KC metro area.

I have enough things that I love about Chicago that I go twice a year.

Good grief. They had it in friggin' Milwaukee a few years back, what in the hell is there to do there? Besides, these guys have the means to get the fuck out of town after the game if they don't like it there. No one is forcing them to stay.

Who the **** is player X

every ESPN the Mag has a column written by an anonymous star (MLB, NFL, NBA or NHL)...

this column focused on the pride of being selected as an all-star...

and then he went on about how some people were really dreading 2012 and the game being in KC since the stadium blows and there is nothing to do in KC...

don't get me wrong dude...

Chicago is fucking sweet...lived there in my early 20s for two years...

but when I grow up (if that happens) I would MUCH rather live in KC than Chicago...

Mainly because I love the Chiefs and would love to go to every game...but still.

Seriously...

Few things make me mad...

When I read that cheap shot...I was really thinking about writing to ESPN and telling them they should edit that shit out or at least put a name behind the anonymity...

that's a low fucking blow

That is rather odd. I have never been to the stadium but know people that have. They talked about how cool it is. As far as nothing to do in KC once again a rather odd thing to say and far from the truth. Must be an ex Royal with a axe to grind~

Looking at it from a player's point of view, I'm sure there isn't much to do in KC. I love it, but you're talking to someone from Springfield. However, I've never heard anything bad about the new K.

There are only so many places where you can buy a $200 bottle of liquor with table service in this town, that's for sure...

Granted, KC isnt New York or L.A., but its not chopped liver either...

The mentality of alot of these guys is pretty shallow. If they cant go to clubs where there are celebs hanging out, they probably think its a cowtown.

That's what I was thinking. KC isn't glamorous. Of course, maybe I just don't know those spots because I'm not rich and famous. Where do Chiefs and Royals players hang out?

Yep... the players bitching about KC and hoping it was someplace else like Chicago probably wouldn't be looking forward to a night of improv at Second City or the uptown poetry slam at Green Mill...... I less than three Chicago. :)

It's kind of dumb. The players aren't even in town that long. The All Star game comes and goes pretty quickly. I bet some of the guys only spend one night in the All Star city.
And I don't believe it anyway about players thinking the stadium sucks. I've read more than a few comments from players over the years listing Kauffman as one of the places they like to play (not for, but at). A couple of years ago in an ESPN Q&A column Nick Swisher listed KC as the city with the most "talent" in the stands.

Yes, I can read. ;)

There are other pics of him actually at the P&L, but that one was easy to find and I don't think he dressed himself on those nights, so they're not nearly as funny.

I honestly don't know what more there is to do in Chicago than in KC other than go to an NBA game. Seriously. I've been to Chicago. It's nice but I don't see what more there is to do, and what there is to do there costs way more. There are much worse places than KC and honestly, Kaufman is probably better than both Wrigley for sure, and US Cellular field. Only reason why people like Wrigley is the "tradition". The tradition of failing every single year I guess.

It is just kind of a shame that the area immediately surrounding the stadiums is a shit hole.

What an ignorant piece of shit. I live in Austin now (a very popular destination at the moment), and have lived all over.. including places as cosmopolitan as Barcelona, Spain... and KC has MORE than enough to offer in a 2-3 day span... it's a shame that ESPN gives a soapbox to worthless prima donnas like this. Fuck him and may he die falling on fire from an aids tree while choking on antifreeze.

Sucks that people like that exist to waste good oxygen.

Bingo.

That's the problem. There isn't anything that is glamourus around the stadium. It has so much promise in the area. A very classy hotel like a Hilton or a Merriott would deftinaly improve the area, and the fans wouldn't have to commute too far from the hotel to the stadium.

Wouldn't hurt to have some kind of a version of a P&L as well in the area, or a Village East type (like the Village West in KCK). That would generate some economic (assuming) into the area and as well to the city (if the city councilmen-women/mayor or county people aren't mis-managing the money to begin with anyways).

Or a very classy casino. Whatever it is, something needs to be done in the area, becuase, as you said, and rightfully so, the areas immediately surrounding the stadiums is a shit hole.

Here's an idea, Player X, if players are so "pissed" about it then they can forfeit their nomination to the game. I'm sure there are plenty of players who would be just peachy about playing in an All-Star game, in KC or otherwise.

Know what? There's a highway you can even see from the stadium that takes you straight to downtown in about 10 minutes.
