View Full Version : Chiefs Supplemental draft; Harvey Unga

The supplemental draft is being done via E-mail this year. We should know within a few hours if the KC Chiefs (who are very interested) are awarded BYU runningback Harvey Unga. In case you don't know, Unga was kicked out of BYU for having sexual relations with Tony Moeaki's sister. Which, as we all know, at BYU that is a big no-no.

What do you think? Should we take Unga? Or how much would you be willing to give up to have Harvey Unga? At the highest it sounds like a 3rd pick is what it will take. At the lowest, possibly a 5th.

With Jamaal Charles, Thomas Jones, Kesthan Moore, Javarris Williams, Jackie Battle, Mike Cox and Tim Castille, why would the Chiefs give up a 2011 draft choice when they have so many other holes to fill on the roster?

For a third through a 5th, you're looking at a possible long term solution at center, guard, right tackle, third WR, etc.

That doesn't seem like a wise decision for the Chiefs at this time.

Thomas Jones has 1 or 2 years left and that's it. As far as the other positions of need go maybe they're trying to get talent when and where they can as oppossed to just drafting for need.

That said they haven't pulled the trigger yet so it's all probably moot.

How deep is the OL/DL and LB prospects in next years' draft? If it isn't very deep on any of these three positions than I say save the draft pick for next year so we can get help at our positions of need.

Jamaal Charles is the starter, barring injury, for the next three years minimum.

Even if TJ doesn't last beyond the 2011 season, there are always plenty of options at backup running back in free agency.

Wasting a third, fourth or fifth round pick - a guy who could be a potential day one starter, on a backup running back is not a good drafting philosophy.

ChiefGator

I think Unga goes this round. And I think a dependable backup and possible starter/3rd-down back is worth a fifth. Jones is going to start slowing down soon, if not already. At most we could hope to get two years out of him. And he did as well as he did this year while splitting carries. If Charles OR Jones goes down right now, we are very light at RB.

You don't skip on using a 5th rounder on a potential big impact player because of Kesthan Moore, Javarris Williams, and Jackie Battle.

Forget Harvey Unga. Osca Madison wrote a column saying he's as much of a headcase as his grandfather.

Other than the first two, Unga is a better all-around back than anyone else you listed. He's BYU's all-time leading rusher with a year of eligibility left. The guy is a powerback/fullback with excellent hands, excellent blocking skills, good vision and hits the holes with authority.

Given Thomas Jones age, I think that getting a quality all-purpose back in the Kimble Anders mold (and I think that Unga is more talented at the same level) would be well-worth a future third round selection or lower for a team not very deep at that position. Personally, I don't even think we've got that type of player on the roster as Cox and Castille are pure fullbacks and the rest are unproven question marks.

I'd be happy to get Unga in the supplemental.

Because top draft picks might decide to say they weren't going out in the draft and then would just decide to go out after the draft is up so they could go to any team they want.

I think the only way to defend it would be to assume that Jones won't be here long, and cut all those HB guys to keep Charles, Jones and Unga for a future big back. Plus, they would have to be huge believers that the kid is pretty much can't miss. There would still be McCluster to take some emergency carries if the shit hit the fan. I tend to agree with you though.
