View Full Version : Poop Cowboy hats indoors?

I was watching the ESPYs and I noticed that some idiots were wearing cowboy hats indoors. I'm not that old, but I'm old enough that my dad would have put a boot in my ass if I had worn a hat indoors anywhere.

Has courtesy changed that much or are these pretend cowboys simply too self-important to bother with removing their hats?

I never understood what was wrong with wearing a hat indoors. OTOH, wearing sunglasses indoors is about as douchetastic as you can get.

Too self important. Image is too important for many of these modern day "country" stars. I put that in "" since these days country is country in name alone. Guys like Kenny Chesney wear them at all times to cover up their bald tops.

I don't see a problem with it. I wear my Chiefs hat everywhere I go. But of course, I love watching the pissed off look I get from Donkey fans as I walk by in public.

My old man thinks he's a real cowboy. He's back into horses again, and doin the whole country thing again. He wears his hat in doors sometimes. It gets annoying, because I know it's just a gimmick he puts on. But hey, whatever floats your boat. I don't judge too much :)

I'm reasonably well mannered. I also gave 5 years to the USMC which taught wearing hats indoors was an awful sin. But I think times have changed. I don't personally have a problem with it. But that's likely because I wear hats often. I'm not gonna share hat hair with you just because of some old-fashioned custom that makes zero difference in the big picture.

The no hats indoors thing is a load of conservative bullshit.

Throw it out with every hypocritical christian religion and if anyone complains, deport them to Antarctica, where their imaginary god can provide for them while they take off their hats inside their fuckin' igloos.

Indoors is alright, but people wear them at the dinner table. That's something I don't get. My mom would have literally slapped it off my head.

What difference does it make to wear a hat on your head while putting food in your mouth? I don't get the logic

I don't get the logicWell, since we are talking about cowboy hats in this thread I would say this, for cowboys it used to be ingrained in them to remove the hat at the dinner table. Probably not that way anymore but it should be.

Hell, cowboys mothers trained them to do it.

As far as all hats, all I care about is removing them during the national anthem and at dinner. Other than that, I don't give a crap.

Personally, it comes off in a church, during the national anthem, and at the dinner table.

Also, like Bugeater, I think wearing sunglasses indoors is douchetastic.

I think they should come off if the cowboy is sitting in front of someone and the hat is blocking that person's view.

Beat me to it.

Add courtrooms, meetings, and someones office to my list.

I'm sure there's other places I take mine off. Just can't remember right now.

This..

You can wear hats anywhere imo except: church, family dinner somewhere were respect is being implied..

It's a completely arbitrary moral construction so it's useless.
I am not bothered by someone wearing hats and think the whole thing is silly, but I care what other people think enough to remove my hat when it's expected.

It's certainly not the sort of thing worth getting in a huff over so you people that are attaching some type of real moral significance to this have a problem.

All hats should be taken off while indoors and while the National Anthem plays......put your hand over your heart as well..

IMO Taking your hat off is a sign of respect. I think taking it off inside is mainly for when entering someone else's home or a church (or some other place that would be worthy of reverence), but I could be wrong.

As far as sitting down to eat, I think it's a sign of respect to your guests or your host depending on the situation. Also, wearing a hat often restricts the view of your face and eyes which not only is detrimental to conversation, but can be seen as particularly disrespectful.

It may be old fashioned, but there it is.

Don't see a problem with them worn indoors. Although they should come off with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.I don't see much of a difference. In both cases, it has traditionally been done out of respect.

I don't have a huge issue with hats being worn indoors, but I don't really see the point either. Hats are, theoretically, meant to either keep your head warm or keep the sun out of your eyes. Neither are typically an issue indoors, so there's no need for a hat.

I know people think of them as a fashion accessory of sorts these days, which is why it's becoming more common. But that doesn't mean it makes any sense.

For every hat you don't wear indoors, I'm going to wear three.
