Tim Tebow will not make $33 million
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 29, 2010 7:44 PM ET

Turning water into wine might be easier than turning Tim Tebow's five-year contract into a $33 million deal.

The Broncos signed the No. 25 overall pick to a contract with a base package of $11.25 million, and an "absolute maximum" of $33 million.

To get close to all that money, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tebow will "have to make Peyton Manning look like a fool."

Tebow's incentives are broken down into playing time and performance escalators. If Tebow can reach every playing time trigger and become the consistent starting quarterback (possibly soon), he could make up to $24 million over five years.

Another $9 million is tied up in escalators for difficult goals like Pro Bowls, playoff wins, and Super Bowl appearances.

Our understanding is that Tebow's camp was willing to take $11.25 million as the base salary because they expect he will become the starting quarterback and that number will become moot.

Now all Tebow has to do is prove Josh McDaniels right, and prove just about everyone else wrong.

Tebow's advantage - aside from the advantage of having to learn everything about being a QB all over again because everything he did for the entirety of his life before the NFL was so bad it made nfl coaches cry and vomit - so his advantage is being the first player ever to have a 'will to win,' 'a great desire,' and 'a great work ethic'....as no other player has ever had these things, he is surely on the rocket powered ass shuttle to Planet Success...

He doesn't have anywhere near the armstrength that Cutler does but he does have a strong arm. Almost every scouting report I read has said Tebow has a strong arm.

Possesses very good arm strength.

Not everyone agrees that Tebow throws the best deep ball and has the strongest arm. If I had more interest I could dig up piles of stuff like this:

(Tebow's) deep ball is wobbly on good days, and his lefty wind-up may result in what would be an open window in the SEC turning into an incompletion or interception against fleet (NFL) secondaries. (Tebow's) arm strength will be heavily scrutinized, and he may fall further on draft day for that as well.

Walter Football???? LMAO

Hey... there's zillions of "Why Tebow Will Suck" articles out there. I won't post a list for you.... you know its there. Although this was nice:

The Broncos obviously made a deal with the Sports Devil circa 1997. They went to him and said: You give us back-to-back Super Bowl championships with John Elway, we'll suck for the next 20 years. And the Devil accepted this deal. So, after Elway retired on top of the football mountain, the Broncos have been cursed at quarterback. I give you this sad parade of play callers: Brian Griese, Jake Plummer, Gus Frerotte, Jay Cutler, Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn and now... Tim Tebow.

It was a good pick by the Broncos. They maneuvered down and basically ended up with a free late first round pick. Tebow was going to get selected about there anyway, and picking him up for free while getting the WR they wanted earlier was a very nice move from not only a PR standpoint, but also a roster standpoint as Orton and Brady haven't stood out in terms of starter caliber material.

Bag on it all you want, but drafting Tebow when the Doncos did was a pretty good move all things considered.

And you wonder why I don't like you.

For the sake of argument, before the draft I believe I mentioned that I'd draft Tebow in the 4th round. This was an acknowledgment of all of the kid's hard work, as my previous stance was that he could go undrafted (as a QB).Sure, but you're a draftabulator, so your comment doesn't matter because you're a college student without a job. The draft is over, so people of your ilk aren't popular anymore

This is what I think is funny ... (I am not a Florida/Tebow fan), but I don't think that Tebow has gone out of his way to focus on his religion. I think the media picked up on that early and that is what everyone continues to focus on and bash on him about. 90% of the bashing here is about his religion... 70% of the articles posted, bash or take a dig on the guy that is religion based.

It's really getting old to be honest.

Well... he's the only player that paints bible quotes on his face with the white reflecting light into his eyes...

You guys make fun now but in 6 years and three Superbowls later, you'll eat your words. Tebow has all the intangibles and he's got two great QB's in Quinn and Orton to learn from./Knowmo
