have you read nothing about the seeding in the official thread? it's done by percentage of votes received. and I agree, the 10 seed is a farce--but apparently most people aren't fans of that character.

I hate to be a stickler, but it wasn't Satan that possessed Linda Blair in The Exorcist. It was a demon named Pazuzu.
