They look really ****ing stupid for passing on Clausen now.

For being such a loaded team, they still should have taken that shot with, or without, Favre. Wouldn't it suck for them if he really does just walk away when they have all those weapons?I did not think Clausen should be taken at five, but when the Vikes had a shot, I though Jimmy was long gone. For being such a tough old bastard, Brett sure comes across all girly by playing all the drama stuff. One has to wonder if he had gotten more serious about trying to work as a leader in the offseason years ago if his legacy wouldn't have been much stronger. Think about the crap he pulled last year, and what he ended up doing was incredible.

Well, if he goes through with it, Peterson's fantasy value just increased.

Last year, 1st and goal inside the 5, there was a damn good chance that Favre threw three times.

That's not happening with Tarvaris Jackson under center.

FWIW,

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/429116-vikings-surely-wish-now-they-drafted-jimmy-clausen

With reports surfacing that legendary quarterback Brett Favre has retired, the Vikings sit in a position they surely never imagined.

Almost everyone around football thought Farve would return for his 20th NFL season, especially after he had his surgery on his left ankle that bothered him especially in the NFC Championship Game.

The Vikings did draft a quarterback in the sixth round but he projects to be more of a wildcat option.

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress' options consists of Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.

Both are capable backup quarterbacks, but nothing more. Jackson has some potential, but is a major risk.

Now on to the major topic of this article, Jimmy Clausen, the strong-armed quarterback from Notre Dame, fell dramatically in the draft.

Instead of spending a high pick on Clausen, when the Vikings had two second round picks, they drafted a Safety/Cornerback Chris Cook and Running Back Toby Gerhart.
Cook is talented with some potential, but will need major coaching.

Gerhart offers very little to the team because he is not a third down back who can catch the ball, the complement superstar Adrian Peterson needs.

How much now do the Vikings regret not drafting Clausen?

Clausen was the best quarterback in '10 NFL Draft, but fell because of "immaturity" issues.

There will be many teams that will regret not drafting Clausen, but especially the Vikings considering they will have to go through the year with a major question mark at quarterback.

Clausen could have managed the game very much like Mark Sanchez did with the Jets last season.

The Vikings have a great defense and running attack, but without a quarterback, they might not be lucky enough to squeak into the playoffs.

Report: Vikings offer Favre $16 million plus incentives

Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2010 12:10 AM ET

Currently, Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is due to earn a base salary of $13 million in 2010. In an effort to persuade him not to retire, the Vikings are willing to bump the number to $16 million, and then some.

Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Vikings have offered a $3 million raise to Favre, along with incentives that if met would push the total even higher.

We still think Favre also will hold out for the ability to show up a week or so before the regular-season opener. And giving coach Brad Childress an atomic wedgie on national television probably remains a deal breaker for Brett.

Favre shows up at high school practice again
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Brett Favre has hit the practice field at Oak Grove High School.

Favre did not appear to be working out Wednesday morning, but simply ran onto the field and began lightly tossing the ball with players in warmups. He then helped an assistant coach as the players went through drills.

The quarterback made no comments to reporters before taking the field, a day after telling Minnesota Vikings players and officials he won't return for a 20th season. The former league MVP told the Vikings his ankle is not responding well after offseason surgery.

Favre has made regular appearances at Oak Grove in the summer for several years, working out with players during informal summer drills as he prepared for the upcoming season.

He hasn't said anything, the Vikings told him essentially to come to camp whenever he felt like it. Someone from the media in Minnesota is at fault for the latest round of this IMO.

Brett is an alltime top QB.. But what he did last year was not incredible.. That team was stacked to win... It was expected if not a letdown they did not make it to the superbowl.. And probably would have had it, if he went to a more Dilfer like role..

Personally I think he will come back right before regular season..

Why wouldn't it be his fault? He is dragging this out, just like he did last year, because he can't stand not being talked about.

And this is why he gets a lot of hate now.. Prima Donna, who hopefully sinks the Vikes again until he is put int he ground.. Then our luck zombies happen and he still comes back..

Whoa now lets be fair, until Favre went to Minnesota pretty much everyone thought their receiving game was shit and Sidney Rice was a nobody that only hardcore fans knew anything of.

If there's one player praying for Favre to come back it's Rice.

No offense to ESPN and their Favrewatch 2010 coverage, but if I were Rice I wouldn't be worried

Same difference. He is and will be one of the most talked about players on this board this season. Are chiefs fans jealous? Otherwise why so much chatter about him. He'll we drafted players too you know.

I'm sick of Favre. His season-ending godawful interception last year made me laugh.

Favrewatch 2010

WHAT WILL HE DO?

I think he will come back He needs the spotlight to exist. Otherwise nobody would care and with in 1 year nobody will give a shit about him. Kind of like they do know.

He should be, if he has to play a year with Tavaris Jackson before getting a new contract it will decrease what he can get.

And anyway the NFL is a far more entertaining place with Favre in it.

We don't know that, do we? Hell he's been there for so long, it's like an abusive relationship. People need to get out of it, but they don't because it's what they know.

When Favre is finally done, it'll be a bump in the NFL road and then we'll all move on to Payton Manning watch...
