At the beginning of July we got word (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/7/5/1553062/lions-sniffing-around-chiefs-s)that the Lions (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/DET) had contacted the Chiefs (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/KAN) regarding safety Jarrad Page (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2390/Jarrad_Page), who has yet to sign his restricted free agent tender. A few weeks later, ESPN's Len Pasquarelli "confirmed (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/7/18/1575459/espn-confirms-lions-are-interested)" our report that the Lions are indeed interested in Page.
The connection of course is Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, who was on the Chiefs staff when Page was drafted.
Since then it's been relatively quiet on the Page front. Page is still listed on the Chiefs roster we're given at camp and Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com just recently started listing him under practice inactives perhaps as a reminder that the Chiefs control his rights.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk now passes along rumors (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/05/rumors-swirl-that-louis-delmas-needs-surgery-to-repair-groin-injury/) floating around that Lions safety Louis Delmas (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71124/Louis_Delmas), who hasn't participated in any training camp activities to date, might have an injury more serious than some thought. Lions beat writers are denying that the injury is of the season-ending variety (http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2010/8/5/1606661/rumors-about-season-ending-injury) but it brings Page back into focus.
If Delmas' injury is a concern -- and right now that's debatable -- then they might be interested in adding another safety.
Such as Jarrad Page.
Media folks around Chiefs training camp including myself don't expect Page to ever suit up for the Chiefs again. I've said that I think the Chiefs are holding onto him for now because they don't want to give off the perception that you can force your way out of town. I've also said that I think they're holding onto him for now because inevitably a training camp injury will hit making Page a more attractive --and thus more expensive -- option.
It's all speculation at this point but Delmas' injury does bring the Lions interest in Page back into focus.

Notice in any NFL action shot of Page, he's chasing somebody who just burned us for a big play...

If we can get a 6th rounder for him, take it and run!

seriously, any compensation for a 7th round pick we don't want and that doesn't want to be here...win..

This will be a surprise if we don't take any kind of offer,I would like to see him stay for depth purposes. But if we could turn this into an extra draft pick then I say take it

Page is worth more on the Chiefs roster than any crappy draft pick the Lions will be willing to give up....plus I wouldn't want them to cave in to another disgruntled athlete.

Fuck that. If they offer up a 4th or 5th round pick....I'd take it in a heartbeat.

The thing is to remember that this would be a Lion's draft pick, so we know it is going to be a high pick in that particular round! :thumb: 5th is like a low fourth.

I can't understand why Page wouldn't want to play for a coach like Emmitt Thomas. Former Chief, HOF defensive back, knows his craft, great coach at other stops. Why not play for a guy like that, even if you don't like Haley?

Who would want to play for the Lions? They're one of the few teams that might possibly suck more than we do...

page isn't worth anything on our roster, that's why we drafted 2 safeties...and how do you "cave in" to a 7th round pick with a second-round tender of $1.759 million?

Why would it be like a 4th. A 5th is a 5th whether its at the front or the back.

I'll take their 4th and turn it into a LB or O-lineman. Definitely a good trade.

If there is a trade, i bet its a conditional 7th that goes up depending on PT.

Leggett IIRC went for the INT and whiffed, only being able to swipe at Austin's ankles, Page was running from the complete other side of the field the time that pic was taken.
