The BIL and SIL are down here in Texas visiting this week and it's my BIL's birthday on Tuesday. My SIL wants to get him a smoker that's similar to mine and they have them here, but won't ship them to Kansas(Manhattan area). They don't have the room to take it back themselves.

Simple question, where can they go to find one in Kansas similar to the one pictured below?

I'm sure they'd have something similar to it in the KC Metro Area.

I don't have one but I heard the Green Egg is supposed to be one of the best combo grill/smokers made.

Thanks for the link. The same grill as pictured above(I bought mine for $300) is listed at $739...no thanks.

I was hoping that there was a store locally that they could just go and pick it up after they get back up there.

I've heard that too, but he really likes this style of smoker. I personally have no complaints. :)

Yes it is. I have one just like it. Good smoker, but I think they sold out to New Braunfels several years ago.

I gotta second this. Especially if he's not a real hardcore BBQ enthusiast. My old man got one of these, and it's been absolutely great. Very very simple to use, basically just set your temp and walk away. Really good results. Not exactly as good of results as a nice traditional wood smoker that you have to babysit. But good enough that you'll impress the hell out of most folks.

They're expensive though. And if you were balking at the price of the one above, that might put the Traeger out of your range too...

Im saving to buy one from Klose but Houston is a long drive to pick it up. The worst thing about most are how they have cut back on quality of steel.

When I finally take the plunge it will be on a Klose Smoker and either the germangrill or a hastybake grill.

Correct. But they're a pretty thin iron, from what I've seen.

You're going to spend way north of $500 if you want a quality offset smoker.

It's not 1/4", but just slightly less than that. It's definitely thicker than the norm. Great smoker for the money spent.

Mine is probably 15 years old and it is made of pretty damn thick metal.
Beast must weigh 200 lbs.

Weber smokey mountain. Great smoker, and doesn't take up much space. You would have to order it, but shipping is generally included. I love mine it's As close to set it and forget it as I have found, the temperature control on high temp short smokes and low temp overnight smokes have been great. Can find them for around $300, got mine at aimtofind.com

Interesting that you pointed that out, because the Weber Smokey Mountain is on that site's first page. It's their deal of the week, at $239. It ends 8/8, apparently.

I've really enjoyed my WSM. Easy to use, consistent and puts out a great product. If I wanted another smoker and wanted to spend $300 or less that's what I'd buy.

I'm not sure what site you mean, but was $239 for a 18" or 22" WSM?

I have seen similar smokers at Lowe's, but have no idea of the quality. Found this one at Home Depot, but again not sure of the quality your looking for. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xh7/R-202053639/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

It's only a smoker if it has a separate fire box, the green egg doesnt.

They've been claiming it's their deal of the week for like two months but I'm not complaining cuz it's much cheaper than amazon. The green egg is money too, but at almost twice the cost I don't see the value. My old man has a new braunfels smoker and it's good too, he's just got to babysit it more than I care for.
