View Full Version : Food and Drink What is there to do in the Quad Cities?

Mrs. OTW58 and I are thinking about taking tomorrow through Friday off and getting out of town for a few days.

We both love to play golf, and I see that the TPC at Deere Run is a public facility - and is pretty reasonable for a PGA Tour course.

Anyway, that covers tomorrow - what the hell is there to do in Davenport/Rock Island/Moline to keep busy the 2nd day? We'll drive back on Friday morning.

Google has been of no help.

Any suggestions - even antifreeze - welcome.

Looks like "Floatzilla" will be there this weekend.

Do something significant for once and set a world record.

If that doesn't float your boat, you can take a guided segway tour of Davenport.

Drive to the Quad Cities...and then head east about 180 miles.

Thank me later.

Looks like we have Thursday morning/afternoon to kill.

We're driving up tomorrow morning. Staying at Jumer's. Playing the TPC course in the afternoon.

Forgot that the Cardinals Single-A affiliate is in Quad Cities, so we're hitting the game that night.

At this point, we're probably looking for a decent dinner recommendation for Wednesday night after golf, a decent lunch recommendation for Thursday and some sort of activity for Thursday afternoon.

Any museums, historical districts, antiques/shopping, etc available?

Even something that's a short drive from QC would be OK.

Can't get a decent hotel room downtown for under $200 a night.

I love Chicago, but I'm not dropping 4 bills plus just to sleep.

Very good...

I would definitely suggest either lunch or dinner at The Faithful Pilot in LeClaire, IA...about 15/20 minutes from Davenport. Make reservations, and ask for seating in the back along the river. If you are in to wine, order the 03 Kiona Cab, and try any of their steaks. The shops in LeClaire are very nice, and it is right along the river. Also, the guys from the TV show "American Pickers" live there, and you can stop by their antique shop. www.faithfulpilot.com

I would also recommend dinner at Woodfire Grill. Excellent food, and right next to a river roots coffee house that usually has somebody playing Thursday nights. www.gowoodfire.com

There are also a couple of nice river boats to gamble on in Davenport and Bettendorf.

I would also suggest going to the Putnam Museum. Their exhibits are usually pretty nice, and the IMAX theatre is also there as well if you want to catch a 3D show.

If you are in to wine as you can tell I am, you can stop by The Grape Life, and have a nice bottle of wine while speaking to the owner. Very relaxing way to kill some time!

You won't be disappointed with the TPC course!

Any questions, let me know!

Yea, do stuff by the river. If it's anything like the rest of Iowa atm, it will smell like sewage and dead fish from all the flooding. Have fun.

I highly recommend a day at this place. (http://www.deere.com/en_US/newsroom/2010/releases/corporate/28may2010_corporaterelease.html)

If you have time you might want to squeeze this visit into your schedule. (http://www.amanacolonies.com/)

The Figge Art Museum is cool.

If your wife likes some little shops you can go to LeClair, which is just up the river. Great little restaurant called the Faithful Pilot that I would recommend. If you are a History Channel guy you hit up Antique Archaeology, which is the shop of the guys of American Pickers.

The restaurant scene in the QCA sucks. Machine Shed, Johnny's, and Thunder Bay are all casual, well priced, with good food. If you are looking for something a little more you will struggle. You could also hit the Village of East Davenport good bars, shops, and food.

Looks like this works out after all.

We REALLY want to play the TPC, but REALLY don't want to spend an extra day in QC.

So we're driving up to QC tomorrow AM, playing TPC and staying at the casino - then driving to Chicago Thursday morning and staying the night there.

Completely forgot I have a metric shit-ton of AMEX points. Used them for a place downtown.

Only thing that sucks is that it'll go quick - we have to be back in STL Friday night for a rehearsal dinner.

You are clearly not going to the right restaurants if (1) you think QC restaurants suck and (2) think machine shed is good.

Need a suggestion for a breakfast place. Preferably not very far from Jumer's, unless it's east on I-80, since we're heading to Chicago.

Despite what TRR says, Machine Shed is good shit, and their breakfast kicks ass.
