$3200 for one night in one bar in Norway.
PAAAAAAAAARTY!!!!!

The Story:

When Iron Maiden walked into Finnegan's Pub in Norway and asked for 27 Slippery Nipples, the bartender did not disappoint. Then they asked for 78 pints of Guiness, 13 Jack Daniels shots, 29 glass "husets" and something else called an "Ossian Ale," among other things. A normal person would call this an epic night out, and an expensive one at that -- the total on the bottom of the receipt equals roughly $3,250 USD. But we have an idea of what Iron Maiden would call it: Tuesday. (Via I Am Bored)

That's some life right there. Touring the world and spending up your money in a bar. You know that was a hell of a good time.

Call me a cheap bastard but I don't think I've ever spent more than $60 at a bar. I like to "pre-drink" and then just keep the buzz going throughout the night.

Back in the late 80's early 90's I used to have bi weekly $100+ bar tabs at one of the local dive pool halls back home in KS. Now that may not seem like much but cold 12oz mugs of draft were .50 cents each and I spent cash there too so that was usually when I didn't have cash I told them to put it on my tab.

But a one night of $3200 ?? That is insane to the point I can't fathom spending that kind of money on a one night binge. :shake:

Dad once told me that a KnowMo and his money soon part. :D

Iron Maiden isn't good anymore, mostly because that suck up Brock, likes them. They haven't put out a good album since the one PRIOR to Seventh S..

Because of the taxes, it's about 4 times as expensive to drink in a bar in Norway as it is in the USA. So if they got a Guinness for 10 bucks, they got a deal!

The Final Frontier that dropped this week is being touted as their best since Seventh Son by many people who's opinions I trust. I'm not a big enough Maiden fan to chime in though.

First off, having just been to Oslo, I can tell you this: Europe is more expensive than the US because the Euro is kicking our ass. Britain and Japan are more expensive than Europe because the Pound and Yen are kicking our ass. But Norway is THE MOST ****ING EXPENSIVE PLACE, because the Kroner is kicking the Dollar's ass, holding it down, and butt****ing it without lube. I went into a TGIFriday's and paid the equivalent of almost $30US for a friggin VEGETABLE QUESADILLA.

Now, on to the subject matter of Iron ****ing Maiden.

Iron Maiden isn't good anymore, mostly because that suck up Brock, likes them. They haven't put out a good album since the one PRIOR to Seventh S..

I have a friend of mine who's stuck in the early 80s and continues to buy their albums, and he says their newer stuff isn't too bad. Like SR, I've dismissed most of the stuff past the Incredible Five (the first five albums, Iron Maiden, Killers, Number Of The Beast, Piece Of Mind, and Powerslave). But then I say, "Well, Seventh Son has some good stuff: Moonchild, Infinite Dreams, The Evil That Men Do, Can I Play With Madness. Somewhere In Time had Wasted Years and Stranger In A Strange Land. No Prayer For The Dying had Holy Smoke, Hooks In You, and Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter. Brave New World had Wicker Man, Dance Of Death has No More Lies..." So I bought A Matter Of Life And Death when it came out and, dammit if I didn't like almost every song on that album.

I think the problem with Maiden is that their sound stayed the same and "dates" their sound. It's still a good sound, but there's not as much room nowadays for that kind of sound to be popular, profitable, daring, or scandalous.

They just came out with a new album, BTW.

I think its their weakest album since the Blaze Bailey era, actually. Not that its a bad album. They're experimenting a bit on it, even. But A Matter of Life and Death and Brave New World blow it away. Even Dance of Death is better - there's no track as good as "Paschendale" on the new album.

I've heard others mention the experimental aspect, seems like a lot of pros are for the tempo of the album. I haven't heard it and doubt I will. I respect the hell out of Maiden and much like all the big boys, its difficult to wade through the "I love it cuz its Maiden" crowd and the let down its not like (insert favorite album) crowd.

After seeing this thread, I actually picked up the new album this morning (local store had it for $9.99) and I'd have to agree. Nothing on it really reached out and grabbed me. MOLAD seems 100 times better. If someone hasn't listened to "modern" Maiden, I suggest you try MOLAD before this new album.

What's kinda scary is that a Slippery Nipple is basically Bailey's and Butterscotch Schnapps or Sambuca.

Gag me for 50 dollars?

High bar tabs are the reason I buy the Direct TV football package every year. As high as it is getting these days I still save a ton of money by watching at home and skipping the bars.

Scandinavian countries have crazy liquor laws too, which is fine since you can rarely afford to drink.

Bruce's voice is hoarse, Steve plods rather than grooves(listen to 2 Minutes to Midnight), and they have way too many slow intos with keyboards and the same bass arpeggio. Maiden are my favorite band all around but it seems they are either trying too hard or just recycling riffs. I don't think genius comes to them naturally anymore. They used to be able to fart out nearly flawless albums, now they strain to release half baked, sleep inducing , middle of the road fodder.

Dave Adrian and even Janick's lead playing hasn't sounded this good since the 80's , I will give them that. Oh and 'Isles Of Avalon' is great.

Not sure is anyone could have out drank Def Leppard back in the day.

Most rock bands have said they were hands down the Kings of the Booze. Sadly it cost Steve Clark his life and then the band turned ghey.

Don't drink and rock kids!

I dont think they get enough credit for their musicianship. Janick is a beast! He has so much energy live-he was a real boost for maiden.
