View Full Version : Chiefs "Jury" Style Huddle for MNF!

Back in the late 1960's the Chiefs used to huddle different than any other team in football. They'd line up linemen in a straight line, backs and receivers in front of the linemen, Dawson would face them, like a lawyer facing a jury, and call the play. It was freakin' cool, real trademark.

I remember a few years ago when Trent Green was QB, they came out for a first series in a game and used this huddle when they called the first play as a tribute to the old Chiefs.

We ought to do this for our first series on Monday Night to re-christen the new Arrowhead. This would be a great tip of the hat to the old Chiefs, and the new "Hall of Honor."

Plus it would be freakin' cool.

I'm not saying huddle this way all the time. Just for the first play of the first series on MNF vs San Diego. Whaddya think?

I loved that setup. I wish we would use it on a full time basis.

Our HS team uses this. I don't really understand why more teams don't.

It seems with away games, with 60K+ people yelling and hitting the seats in front of them, the players at the end would have a hard time hearing.

It would be a cool little tribute. I'm all for it. Might help fire up some fans as well.

I think they have much better odds to pull off a successful huddle than a successful scoring drive, but OK...I'm with ya!

I'd say it's 50/50.

I think they called it the "choir huddle" or something like that back in the day.

It was known as "The Tombstone Huddle"

At least I think so...

It sucks for the linemen.

It sucks for the linemen.

Not totally, after the RBs and WRs assumed the position, they called it the "cuddle huddle".

I was trying to be all "detective man" and figure out which game that was from. It's obvious.

Purple sock in the background? Was Wendall Hayes our fullback at that point?

And I wonder why Pitts and Richardson are in the game and Otis Taylor isn't? I don't think he's one of the two guys behind Lenny, since I'm presuming those are the center and the tight end.

It was called the "Choir Huddle"...the Chiefs used it on the first play of the season Hank Stram went into the HOF. If you recall the Chiefs also fumbled on that play.

That was the Chiefs Kids Club in the 70's.

Yeah, it is SB IV. I knew it had to be from the 1968 or 1969 season because Mo Moorman was a rookie in 1968 and Mike Garrett was gone before any home games were played in 1970. I was zeroing in on the socks and trying to figure out which games Lenny missed in 1969 when I realized which game would most likely have a photo like that.:doh!:

Yes, I believe "Choir Huddle' is the right term. Good job.
And I was in the Huddle Club in old Municipal Stadium. It was behind the goalpost where the third base line would have been for baseball. The other goalpost was in right field. That was called "Stenerud's Roost".
