Have you ever seen them before?

I am looking for jobs and there is a receptionist job which requires a lot of computer-literate skills that I am experienced with and it pays $20/hr, but I just feel weird about it. Are receptionists supposed to be women only or am I just being sexist?

I wouldn't second guess it. If you need the job, go for it. Seems like good money for what I'd think would be a pretty low stress job.

I've had male receptionists before in my company. It's not a gender-specific job.

The thing that sucks about applying for jobs right now is everytime I have to let the people know that I have a trip planned from Sept 10-14 (which is 3 business days) that I would have to miss right off the bat.

Yeah they are, as are most the places I've been applying for the past few days. If I get hired somewhere that I feel is great, I may have to cancel my trip.

I am really hoping someone will hire me knowing that fact because if a place will hire you knowing that you are going to miss 3 days right of the bat, then they are probably good people to work for.

Plus, I'm going stir crazy.

I don't think it's out of the question. The IT Director at the last place I worked started out as a receptionist with the company. He just got his foot in the door and ran with it. It's not the job you have but the job you do that matters. Unless you're a complete dumbass (or the company is) you probably won't be a receptionist forever.

Interesting. Yet, this runs completely counter to my philosophy. I have always found that stunningly beautiful girls make for a more attractive and pleasant office environment.

Plus, I don't have to compete with my local post office for employees.

Just think of it as customer service. I take up the slack for lazy inept female 'workers' all the time. answer the phone, take orders, messages,file, bill, whatever has to be done.
they will probably give you a raise in the 1st week just because you know the alphabet in the correct sequence.
