Chiefs vs. Chargers: Ryan O'Callaghan Returns To Practice (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/9/8/1676550/chiefs-vs-chargers-ryan-ocallaghan)

The Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/kansas-city-chiefs) are entering the 2010 season on a very injury-free note. No starters are missing due to injury....except Ryan O'Callaghan (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1694/Ryan_O).
The Chiefs starting right tackle has been out for over two weeks with an undisclosed injury.
That changed on Wednesday when O'Callaghan returned to practice, according to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com (http://twitter.com/JoshLooney/status/23927174324).
We're not sure what exactly O'Callaghan's injury was but it's possible the Chiefs held him out of the final two preseason games for precautionary reasons to prepare him for the regular season.
For now, it appears O'Callaghan will play. Todd Haley says that players generally have to practice to play so it's looking good for O'Callaghan.
This now means that Barry Richardson (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34483/Barry_Richardson) can revert back to his role as the swing tackle. It also means the Chiefs likely won't be calling in any offensive tackle reserves for this game.
We'll find out more on O'Callaghan's status on Thursday when the Chiefs release their first injury report of the season.

Haley is really incapable of seeing that our running game success occured the last two preseason games with Barry Richardson playing the RT spot?

I'll give someone $100 to sneak into arrowhead and kidnap O'Callahan before game time.

According to Gretz, Richardson was working as the starter while the Irishman worked with the second team.

I hate O'Callaghan. But this is not true. We had a top notch running game all pre-season, even when O'Callaghan was starting.

For what it’s worth, Barry Richardson ran with the first-team during pre-practice segments that were open to the media.

Arrowhead Report: Wednesday, Sept. 8th.

Richardson is a natural left tackle. For the third straight season, the Chiefs have been trying to convert him to the right side.

He has ideal, size and strength to be a dominant right tackle. What he's lacking is starting experience. He's just as good as O'C in the running game and he's better in the passing game.

Barry Richardson should be the unquestioned 16 game starter for the 2010 season, barring injury. O'C is maxed out. Richardson is just beginning to realize his potential.

Is it the 'swing tackle' because he has to 'swing' around really fast to tell the QB to look out?

I hope Richardson starts.

The guy is starting to come on at RT. Why I'd be pissed as heck if the Chiefs decided to start O'Callaghan. Quite frankly, it's clear who the better RT is at this point.

How sweet is it too know though, how the Chiefs possibly have added 3 starting caliber OLmen this season. Lilja, Wiegmann, and the development of Richardson, lets not forget, if Albert improves and proves to be a solid LT, this OL could be respectable. Im glad the Chiefs drafted Asamoah to replace Waters when he is gone. Draft a center next year, cut Niswanger and fire Bill Muir, one awful OL coach. And maybe the Chiefs could be onto something for the OL.

Agreed.

You know what you are going to get out of O'Callaghan. But we really don't know what we have in Richardson yet? Question is, how high is his ceiling?

He is worth playing. Already, he is better than O'Callaghan. That alone should say to the Chiefs that he is worth starting.

Bullshit ... if Richardson was a natural left tackle his specialty would be pass protection and handling speed rushers. He would have quick, smooth feet.

He doesn't ... in fact both Richardson and O'callaghan have the same strengths and weaknesses. Good at the run, Struggling dealing with speed in pass protection.

Basically, your backup is Richardson if Albert gets hurt, and if Richardson goes down, Asamoah will probably take his spot at RT.

I don't think so.

You don't really have any other options, aside from sticking Waters at LT and moving Albert to the right side.

This is where missing a Wade Smith really hurts, as he could play any line position in a jam.

Richardson is having trouble dealing with the speed on the right side because he's struggling with adjusting to the reverse technique from left to right.

He has done fairly well when asked to work on teh left side.

He has improved each of the last two seasons with his pass protect working on the right side.
