I never thought the 49ers were a bad team. But KC did get them under perfect conditions: short week on the road following an emotional game. From watching 40+ years of NFL fooball, I'm pretty confident in saying that had something to do with how badly we beat them.

Geez, why would anyone have trouble saying that teams aren't at their best when playing under the conditions the 49ers were playing?

Are the Chiefs a shit team? No. How good we are remains to be seen. The niner game was one data point. It points in a great direction, but it isn't the last word on the '10 Chiefs and how far the team will actually develop this year.

I gave us credit to us for doing exactly that in the OP of my coffee pissing thread. Yes, that was another good data point. But I don't think anyone would argue that KC played a great game under those conditions. We definitely had less pop in that game than the other two. We are probably better than the Browns by a large enough margin that we can usually beat them when we aren't having our best game.

You are better off just saying there are 13 games left, and a lot can happen. All you do by trying to make excuses for our wins is start a giant circle of excuses. It's the NFL, you shouldn't be making excuses for your victories.

Which is why I could use your argument to say we've beat 1) a supposed Super Bowl contender, 2) went on the road in what you deem to be brutal conditions, and beat a Browns team that had 4th quarter leads on the Bucs and Ravens, and is currently beating the Bengals so far today, then 3) beat down a team that was playing in those same conditions against us.

All of those things are what really good teams do. I think your argument actually makes the case that we're better than you think we are.

Who is jumping to that conclusion? I don't think anyone expects us to win a Super Bowl quite yet. I think there is definitely optimism about the direction of this franchise though, based on 1) performance of the coaching staff, 2) actual improvement of young talent under the coaching staff, 3) our GM appeared to learn from his mistakes and this year's draft picks are producing. That doesn't mean we're elite quite yet.

Not to be a homer, but that Royal screen pass doesn't happen against KC because of Eric Berry.

When the screen was set up, #33 for the Titans tip-toed up to the blockers and let himself get washed out without so much as slowing up the play.

Berry would've at least blown up the blockers in front. Maybe he makes the play, maybe he doesn't, but he keeps that from going for 50 by taking out Royal's blockers.

It won't show on a stat-sheet, but that was where we'll see Berry pay dividends, IMO.

I dumped his ass along with Matt Ryan and Donald Brown for Brandon Marshall.

The dude is getting 5 or 6 targets/game. He's just not playable anymore because guys like Brandon Lloyd are going to get 12 looks and catch enough of them to have better games every week.

Colston's one of the top 10 WRs in football, but he's no better than a bye week start at WR right now. He's going to have a handful of 20 point games here and there when he goes off for 2 scores and 140 yards, but most weeks he will be a fantasy deathtrap.
