http://a.espncdn.com/i/teamlogos/nfl/lrg/trans/kan.gifThe Kansas City Chiefs (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/kc/kansas-city-chiefs)' 3-0 start has surprised most, but even the most optimistic Chiefs fan would not have predicted they would be the last unbeaten team in the NFL.

Coming off their bye week, the Chiefs have two tough road tests against the Indianapolis Colts (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/ind/indianapolis-colts) and Houston Texans (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/hou/houston-texans). After that is a seven-game stretch against teams that are all currently .500 or worse: Jaguars, Bills, at Raiders, at Broncos, Cardinals, at Seahawks and Broncos.

Here are three other reasons for the Chiefs to be optimistic about their future:

Cornerstone at left tackle
Since drafting Branden Albert (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11249) 15th overall in 2008, he has been the brightest star on an otherwise-maligned offensive line. Albert’s impact on the Chiefs running game has been apparent since he entered the league. Since 2008, the Chiefs have averaged 6.3 rush yards per attempt on runs to the left side. Not only is that the best in the NFL, but it’s 1.5 yards better than the league average.

Highest Yards Per Rush
Running Left Since 2008

Four-Man Rush That Can Get To The Quarterback
In 2009, the Chiefs registered 14 sacks when sending four pass rushers or fewer, good for 24th in the NFL. After Week 3, the Chiefs had registered seven sacks (out of eight total) using four pass rushers or fewer, which was tied for best in the NFL at the time with the Packers, Colts and Eagles.

Return on Investments
In 2008, the Chiefs selected a quartet of players who are making an impact in 2010: Albert, Brandon Flowers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11269), Jamaal Charles (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11307) and Glenn Dorsey (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11239). To this point, the best to boast of from 2009 is Mr. Irrelevant, place-kicker Ryan Succop (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=12731). However, their draft class of 2010 has produced immediate results, and it's Dexter McCluster (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=13207) and Tony Moeaki (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=13289) who've had the biggest impact. The duo has combined to score four touchdowns -- only the Detroit Lions have more TDs this season from rookies (five).

No, they got rid of Hermie and Peterson. then decided they were going to hire real players and coaches. It's really revolutionary.

Herm's 2008 draft is the best draft the team has had in the last 20 years, the guy couldn't coach for shit but his idea of how to build a team was right.

Again, and I am not here to argue. Was it Hermie pulling the trigger? In my book he's a complete clod. I wonder how he gets home at night. Sorry to differ an opinion. Regardless, the class that was drafted while he was head coach is doing a great job.

Whos knows how much impact he had in the war room? My guess is CP and Kurarich did most of the picking.

Personally, I think this was all on Bill Kuharich.

I think Herman fucking Edwards got Clark Hunt's ear and more or less gave the draft to Herman fucking Edwards, who in turn gave it to Kuharich, because the head coach simply doesn't have the time to go through all the reports generated by the scouting staff.

Kuharich actually used those reports to make the selections, from the first to the final round, unlike Carl, who had almost always relied on his head coach and the old boy's network to work the draft.

I'm unconvinced that Hermoine was "responsible" for that draft. Based on the anecdotal evidence available to anyone with a search engine and a semblance of objectivity, Herm wasn't exactly "detail oriented". Neither was film study his forte.

People seem to believe that he was a good judge of talent because he was once a scout. Whom did he scout, though?

I, for one, would be very hesitant to endow Herm Edwards with qualities and attributes that he may not, in fact, possess. Like brains, for example. Or judgment. Or, for that matter, any coaching or team-building skills whatsoever.

I find it really hard to believe that Herm Edwards was the architect of a great draft when he cared so little about scouting other teams and players that he never even bothered to watch the f*cking Super Bowl.

And even if Herm WAS this great player evaluation genius that you guys build him up to be, it doesn't matter because he was a HORRIBLE coach who piled up loss after loss and never even seemed to mind losing. I want a coach who HATES to lose. Herm was just fine with losing. He always had an excuse, and he always looked for moral victories.

Herm was a horrible coach. Thank God he's gone. I'd rather have Frank Gansz as my coach than Herm Edwards. At least Gansz told (fake) entertaining war stories. All Herm ever did was talk about how "flustrated" the players were, but how proud he was of his team after they just got crushed.

Two things are for sure...we can thank Herm for Flowers and Carr.

Drafting Carr was his birthday present iirc.

You know, I often hear about this Bill Kuharich guy and how he should get credit for the 2008 draft? Can someone tell me why? Honest question because you'd think if he was the mastermind behind that draft, he'd have another job by now...

Game plan: run left until the Colts get hypnotized and then hit them with a deep play action pass. Rinse. Repeat.

So you are giving all of the credit for drafting Dale Carter to Herm Edwards? LMAO.

You think he scouted him because, he was a scout for KC and they were looking at the 1st round draft prospects and they needed a CB?

It's not like they picked him when nobody else thought he was that kind of talent.

The 2008 draft was the first draft run by the scouts for kc. It why it was so much better than previous drafts.

Based on Carl Peterson who said that Kunarich was the essential architect of the drafts.

Thanks, Mr. Mecca. And God bless.

And God bless Herm, too. Nobody had ever heard of Dale Carter playing, as he did, in Division III at Massachusetts Maritime University.
