View Full Version : Football Do the Colts ever open the stadium roof for a game?

I don't believe I've ever seen the roof open during a game. In fact, I didn't even realize they had a retractable roof until today. The weather tomorrow is supposed to be in the upper 80s, a perfect day for having the roof open. If they leave it closed to increase the noise level, when the weather is nice, why in the hell did they pay for a retractable roof?

That makes two of us that did not know it was retractable.

They've had it open several times. Makes it kinda weird to watch on TV though, there are all kinds of harsh shadows all over the field because it's built like a fieldhouse.

That is the worst part about a retractable roof. The damn sun spots at times make an average game unbearable.

I watched NFL.com's weather reporter (who says the Chiefs are 4-0) and said the roof might open up. I was unaware of that until I saw the video last night.

Yeah, and that place is even worse... it's built like an old basketball fieldhouse. Huge windows... the roof runs along several rails that cast shadows on the field.

It looks great from the outside IMO. I like the looks of it more than a regular dome. The RCA dome was a shit hole.

But the people that constructed Lucas Oil missed on a few simple things that could have easily been corrected.

Simple, like being able to see the field?

I didn't know it retracted. When I lived in Houston they basically use theirs as a dome. One year they opened the roof when the Steelers came to town and had the Steelers wear black, thinking it would wear out the Steelers. The Steelers just kicked their asses and all the fans sitting in the sunny seats had a fit and complained about it for weeks.

Actually, the roof doesn't open. Manning just occasionally parts it like the Red Sea.

Similar to how we are going to part his forehead tomorrow?

LMAO They should be banned from ever going to a football game again. Pathetic fair weather fans, (pun intended).

Domed stadiums only have ladies bathrooms.

That's why I didn't want the rolling roof at arrowhead. I was afraid they would never open it

They just mentioned on our morning show that the roof *should* be open but no official word yet.

It is supposed to be in the upper 80s. I wonder if having it open it would make it a lot hotter inside than no roof at all because of the way it's built. No way for much of a breeze to get in.

and it would have been more of a process to move than the roof in indy or in houston, so it probably would have stayed covered just for convenience sake. i hate domes. football was meant to be played in the elements on grass. not indoors on carpet. although i might compromise a little and admit field turf is really nice. i think its a little easier on the players than natural grass.

Went and saw the Chiefs in Arizona the first year the University of Phoenix opened. Great stadium and the playing field slides out the end of the stadium for real turf to grow, it was a thing to see really cool. Only like 3 like them in the world.

Announcers said it's 80 outside and the Colts decided to keep the roof closed to keep it nice and comfortable for the fans.

It might help if they'd take their ascots off! Wow, what a weak atmosphere.

The sun makes Peyton Manning's skin shine like diamonds. They need to keep the top closed.
