Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) vs. Indianapolis Colts (2-2)
Sunday, October 10, 2010 (1:00 p.m. ET)
Lucas Oil Stadium (63,000 capacity) – Indianapolis, Indiana
Television/Radio: CBS Sports and 1070-The Fan/HANK-FM 97.1

STORYLINES TO WATCH FOR…
1. Chiefs have had success running and stopping the run this season
The Chiefs, behind veteran Thomas Jones and youngster Jamaal Charles, have been one of the league’s best rushing teams through the first quarter of the season. The Chiefs are averaging 160.7 yards per game on the ground this season, which ranks third in the NFL. In their last game against the 49ers, Kansas City rushed for 207 yards on 39 carries. Jones rushed 19 times for 95 yards and one touchdown, while Charles carried the ball 12 times for 97 yards.

On defense, the Chiefs have been stingy against the run, allowing only 225 yards on the ground through three games. The team’s 75 yards rushing allowed per game rank as the fifth-best mark in the league. In their last game against San Francisco, the Chiefs held the 49ers to 43 yards on 15 carries.

2. Colts Offense vs. Chiefs Defense on Third Down
The Chiefs come into the game allowing their opponents to convert third downs into first downs only 26.7 percent of the time, ranking fourth in the league. The Colts, though, have converted their third-down opportunities 44.7 percent of the time, which ranks seventh in the league. Last week against Jacksonville, the Colts offense converted 7-of-10 third-down opportunities into first downs. Since 2002, the Colts have converted 776 out of 1,626 third down attempts, a 47.7 percent success rate, which is the best in the NFL in that time span.

3. Colts at home coming off a loss
The Colts are 52-13 at home since the 2002 season, the second-best mark in the league.

But the team that is already tough to beat at home becomes even tougher to beat when they are playing a game at home coming off a loss.

The Colts have won the last 10 games they’ve played in Indianapolis when they are coming off a loss the game before. The Colts’ first home game this season was the latest time the Colts played a home game after a loss. After losing the season-opener to Houston, the Colts came back to Lucas Oil Stadium to defeat the New York Giants, 38-14. The last time the Colts extended a losing streak with a home loss was November 3, 2002.

INJURY REPORT
The Colts released their game status/injury report on Friday with the following players listed as out for Sunday’s game against Kansas City: LB-Kavell Conner (foot), WR-Anthony Gonzalez (ankle) and DB-Bob Sanders (biceps). Listed as questionable are RBs-Joseph Addai (knee), Donald Brown (hamstring) and Mike Hart (knee), DBs-Antoine Bethea (hamstring), Brandon King (hamstring) and Jacob Lacey (foot), WRs-Austin Collie (foot) and Pierre Garcon (hamstring), OT-Charlie Johnson (foot) and OG-Jamey Richard (shoulder), while LBs-Gary Brackett (back) and Clint Session (hamstring), DB-Jerraud Powers (foot) and WR-Reggie Wayne (knee) are listed as probable.

VENUE: Lucas Oil Stadium
The Indianapolis Colts were the NFL's last unbeaten team in three of the last five seasons, so they know a thing or two about running in front of the pack.

For the surprising Kansas City Chiefs, it's a little bit surreal.

The Chiefs are the league's lone team without a loss, a perfect record that may be difficult to preserve Sunday as they seek their first win in Indianapolis over the Colts, who are eager to move on after a heartbreaking defeat.

Indianapolis (2-2) has been the NFL's regular season standard for much of the past decade, entering this season with a league-best 89-23 record since the start of the 2003 season.

The Colts have been undefeated through at least seven games in four of the past five seasons - and in 2005, '08 and '09 were the league's last unbeaten team - but perhaps no one expected the Chiefs (3-0) to be in that role early in 2010.

Kansas City has done it by relying on an impressive rushing attack (160.7 yards per game, third in the NFL) and opportunistic special teams unit featuring rookie returners Dexter McCluster and Javier Arenas, emerging as the only AFC West team with a winning record.

Not bad, considering the Chiefs didn't win their third game until late November last year and never got there at all in 2008.

"It feels good. This is what we've been talking about in OTAs, minicamp, training camp," cornerback Brandon Flowers said after a 31-10 win over San Francisco in Week 3. "We just have to keep it going, we can't settle for 3-0."

Even after a convincing victory, Flowers was pleased Kansas City had an early bye week.

"That means we can get extra film study, extra time to get ready for going against the Colts and Peyton Manning, and that high-powered offense. That can take us a long way."

The Chiefs are looking to become the eighth team to open 4-0 after beginning the previous season 0-4, but they'll have their work cut out for them. Kansas City has lost in each of its four trips to Indianapolis and is 1-9 against the Colts - three playoff defeats included - in the last 10 meetings.

To make matters worse, the Chiefs may be facing Manning's club at the worst possible time - coming off a loss. Only three times since 2005 has Indianapolis dropped consecutive games when Manning has played 60 minutes.

Sunday's loss in Jacksonville was particularly vexing for the AFC champs. Manning threw for 352 yards and two touchdowns, but two red-zone turnovers and a dropped interception came back to haunt the Colts when Josh Scobee's 59-yard field goal at the gun gave the Jaguars a 31-28 win.

Indianapolis is 0-2 in the AFC South for the first time.

"It's not what we want to be, it's not what we set out to be, but it's what we are," said Manning, who leads the league with 11 touchdowns and a 112.2 passer rating. "We have to find a way to dig ourselves out of a hole. We are in a hole."

The Colts' mediocre start is due in large part to issues with the run - on both sides of the ball. Indianapolis is 29th (75.5 ypg) on the ground offensively, rushing for fewer than 60 yards in three of four games, and 29th against the run, yielding 149.5 per contest.

That doesn't bode well considering what Kansas City does best. Fourteen running backs are averaging at least 70 yards on the ground, and in Jamaal Charles (79.3) and Thomas Jones (72.3), the Chiefs have two.

"There's obviously, a lot of work to do on that side of the ball and we've got to get that straightened away," Colts president Bill Polian said of his team's defense. "We've got good players there, but they're not playing well right now."

Indianapolis is missing a few key ones in the secondary. Safety Bob Sanders is expected to miss most of the regular season with a torn biceps, and replacement Melvin Bullitt is out for the year after breaking a bone in his shoulder against Jacksonville.

Rookie Brandon King or recently signed DaJuan Morgan will likely replace Bullitt on Sunday, leaving Matt Cassel - who threw for 250 yards and three TDs against the 49ers - with a potential weakness to exploit.

A Chiefs loss will leave the NFL without a 4-0 team for the first time since 1970.

That would require the same person being around each week to start the thread, which is even more annoying.

Of course, I'm not superstitious at all, so I don't really care who starts it as long as it's not started until after midnight CDT.

I don't really care either way - whoever gets there first wins. I do agree with Hootie, though, that simpler OP's are better. This one's not bad, but sometimes people post huge blocks of junk that you have to scroll through on every page. That gets old.

Ok, little fun with some numbers...

Colts are 52-13 at home since 2002? That would make today their 66th game at home since then. 66 is a comibation of numbers found in the fibonaci sequence. Which, as fibonaci peoples will tell you that could signify something significant. As in it could be time to add one to the loss column maybe?

The 13 losses is also a number that sticks out. 13 is a true fibonaci number and again possibly signifying a significant event. Meaning they can bouncy off the 13 or they can break through it which would signal a disturbing trend for Indy. The condition and play of the team this year could help one speculate towards the latter.

Colts have won 10 straight at home making this their 11th game in the streak. 11, again is a multiple of a fibonaci number and while multiples taken with less gravity it could signal a major event number wise.

The Chiefs have won 3 straight. 3 is a true fibonaci number. That means today could again signal a key event....we either bounce back against the 3 or we break through which could signal a breakout to the upside for Chiefs wins.

A little fibonaci fun here, the Chiefs are sitting at 3 wins and going for a breakout in week 5. Again both are true fibonaci numbers and one could have a little fun with that and speculate that it could possibly point to a strong indicator day. Meaning the obvious, we win or lose. However when taken in the overall context of the season one could argue it favors a win.

Fibonaci numbers are used quite often among technical analysts in the stock market and I use them for such quite often. Technicians always look for significant events to happen on the day of or the day after a fibonaci number or some multiple thereof.

Just some fun to be had with the numbers.

I still believe Haley could hold a press conference at the 50-yard line 5 minutes before the start of the game that our plan is to run the first 25 plays and we'd still end up with 3 touchdowns and 180 yards rushing. Chiefs can win this but if anyone is going to expose our secondary it's Manning and these receivers. If KC gets some picks and doesn't give the ball away when they have it they have a shot but frankly I think Manning gets time to throw at will and does. If we get Manning out of his comfort zone, however, I think we've got a shot.....

We just have to play a very physical game from the first snap through the last.

The Mannings are pussies and we will expose their meat curtains for all to see.

let's do this.

I watched an old clip on You Tube of Arsenio Hall; he was interviewing Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray, and Ali.

Arsenio mentioned that Joe Louis said Ali would talk alot during the fight when clenched up etc; he asked Ali what did he say to Louis.

and Ali, in his current state - difficult to understand - ...leaned forward slowly and mumbled: "You in biiig trouble, sucka"

Colts -....you in trouble sucka

I respectfully disagree. The call was great, and the execution was great. The ball just didn't bounce the way we neeed it to bounce.
