Wade Smith (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1268/wade-smith), a seven year veteran offensive lineman, was a solid reserve offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/kansas-city-chiefs) in 2008 and 2009. He left for the Houston Texans (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/houston-texans) last offseason when he became an unrestricted free agent. I said at the time that losing Smith hurt the Chiefs because he was such a valuable reserve lineman on their team in 2009.

Smith took the better financial opportunity in Houston and is now a Texan preparing for the Chiefs. He talked with 610 Sports Nick Wright Wednesday afternoon about the Chiefs fast start.

Count Smith as one of those that's not surprised.

"It wasn't a surprsie to me at all," Smith said of the Chiefs 3-1 start to the 2010 season.. "I told people going into that Charger game, the Chiefs will win that one. The next couple weeks, I wasn't following too close but I knew they were playing San Francisco and...I can't remember who but they were both winnable games.

"Them starting 3-0 was not a surprise to me. One of the big reasons I wanted to come back in the offseason was that they were a team that was turning the corner."

He was complimentary of the Chiefs throughout the interview and said he even told the coaching staff in the offseason that he wanted to return if that was possible.

On Todd Haley: "He's a coach that wants his team to be successful. He'll do whatever he feels like needs to be done to pull the best out of individual players."

On Matt Cassel: "He's a hard worker. Tedious guy. First one in the facility, last one out."

On Brandon Flowers: "I'm not surprised [Flowers is playing so well]. B-Flow was my locker neighbor. I knew his rookie year that the was going to be very good. I had [Jets (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-jets) CB Darrelle] Revis up in New York in his rookie year and I knew he was gonna be real good. I didn't know he'd be as good as he was now . B-Flow reminds me a lot of him -- ow they play the game and go about their business. B-Flow, if he stays healthy will be a perennial Pro Bowl type of guy."

Sounded like he was talking about the facilities manager or the janitor... not the QB.

"He's a coach that wants his team to be successful."

:spock:

As opposed to all those coaches who hope their teams fail and they get fired.

What you guys didn't expect Wade to say Cassel sucks, did ya?

I know that's what we all want to hear....but chances are we won't hear ANY Cassel bashing from any players.....leave that to the media/KC fans.

Did he really mean to use the word tedious? It doesn't really fit. I think he meant to say fastidious, or maybe persistent or something.

I'd love to have Wade Smith at center.

Nothing against Wiegmann, but Smith can man the position for four or five years, Wiegmann's got one left in him, maybe.
