The invision software doesnt take a toll on the server like vBulletin does now..and its more secure and can sync to facebook twitter etc. but uh conversion of the software is a ****ing nightmare.

I like vBulletin from a features prospective, but it just isn't very good at handling massive boards. Our database is nearly 2gigs at this point (and that doesn't include all the attachments), so any time something tiny goes wrong, it takes at least an hour for it to run through and fix everything.

But yeah, the conversion from vB to IPB would be a nightmare.

Eh, that's a question that's much bigger than me. We could, but it's nice to be able to occasionally bump a thread about how much of a bust Trent Green is and bump a draft thread to see who was REALLY right. It's certainly an option, but not at all preferred.

There are lots of things we could try. There's actually a fairly good process built into vB to prune threads/posts out based on a number of criteria. It may eventually come to that, but it'd be a shame to lose the history.

That mostly happens when someone does certain searches, but Pats Planet impacts us, too. Nothing should compare to the hour-long outages that I caused though.

The short answer is "no". The archive is really just another forum and, thus, bogs down the server as much as anything. They'd basically have to be deleted completely for it to make any difference.
