Yes, I realize there will be multiple "masturbation" replies.

I've just got a lot going on right now. It's not a time management issue. It's more of a life management issue. What do you do when you've got a lot on your mind?

I love to drive around. Now that I've got a bike, I think I'll give that a whirl, too.

Well, if you're having trouble thinking too much, closing yourself up in a car or going for a long bike ride probably isn't the best thing to do, being solitary events with plenty of opportunity for your mind to wander. I would say either find something that will keep your mind occupied or resolve the issues that are running through your mind. Meeting up with friends, watching TV, reading a book, anything where you won't just be sitting there thinking. But the best approach would probably be to directly attack whatever issues you're having, instead of seeking ways to escape from them, although that's easier said than done.

This time of year, I like to diffuse my pent up rage by sitting 20' in a tree for hours and hours waiting for something to walk by that makes me want to direct a razor through it's vital organs at around 300 ft per second. That's about the best thing I've found.

when I'm super stressed, I like to day dream a bit;

personally, I like to think about a 2 week motorcycle ride I've always wanted to take; and think about all the various places I'd want to visit; visualize the roads, smells, weather, type of motorcycle, sound of the motorcyle etc. no 'timeline' or real direction/plan; just 2 weeks of riding wherever as long as I can buy gas, some grub, and crash in a cheap bed.
sometimes I even youtube to see if there are any small videos mounted from a motorcycle or helmet of the areas I want to ride/visit. etc.

it sort of refreshes me; gets me hopeful I'll be able to do it one day etc.

maybe try some visualization (sp?) techniques?

I'll second this, with a caveat...

Go work out first. Not a simple walk, as that will just get you thinking more. Some cardio and work up a sweat... the bike is a good idea.

Then go to a range and blow holes in targets with something larger than a .22 pistol.

Try it.

Going to the shooting range is probably my favorite way to relieve stress, but earlier this year I started hiking/backpacking and mountain biking as well. One of my neighbors is an older guy and he doesn't get around so well anymore and it seems that his kids don't visit much anymore so for months now on Sundays when I'm off work and he sees me outside he'll bring a few cold beers and we sit in the yard and talk about whatever. His wife passed last year and I feel bad for the guy.I guess that will be me in 20-30 years,so I gotta admit it does make me feel pretty good hanging with the old chap from time to time.I help him out around the yard and house when he needs it and he gives me some home made deer jerky to say thanks.

Take a deep breath if it's a stressful event, exhale and relax.

If you're stressed at the end of the day, join a gym. Buy a book (or e-reader) and do 30 minutes on the treadmill and/or 30 minutes on the bike. Once you get into a routine, you'll look forward to exercising while reading and you'll sleep much better as well.

Yeah, I remember the first time I got a rental at LAX and was planning on heading north on the 405. I noticed that one of the mirrors was out of whack to the rental lady person, and that I couldn't fix it so that I could see out of it properly. I told her that it wasn't a big deal, and she just stared at me and highly recommended that I get another car.

I have played an MMO and just started playing again.. Most of them are so easy and social it makes for a fun time, and they usually have fairly relaxing music. It's easy to get addicted though, a lot of people do.

Doesn't mean you can't have all those other things though, as long as you have some self-control.

Working out is pretty much my main form of stress relief. A lot of "stress relievers" are actually just traps. They allow me to escape for a while, but the stress is still there when I return. So while they may offer some "relief," it's just an illusion. Working out, though, is the real deal. It truly alters my body chemistry to make me less stressed and less depressed.

Things that seem to be stress relievers but actually don't help at all in the big picture: Chiefsplanet, drinking, online gaming, iphone gaming, facebook, ignoring my kids, eating fast food, etc...

Other things that actually do relieve stress even though when I'm stressed I don't feel like doing them: cooking a good meal, going shopping for good groceries, balancing my checkbook, hanging out with my kids and working with them on school work, hanging out with my kids and playing games with them.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that with stress and depression it's counterintuitive. The things that appeal to me when I'm depressed or stressed are actually things that don't relieve it at all. Things that I really don't want to do at the time are the things that will make me feel better.

To relieve stress, I masturbate....

...someone else.

HAH! Fooled you, didn't I?!?

Seriously, though... it's going to be different things for different people. To relieve stress implies doing something you find calming and relaxing that perhaps focuses you more on the "big picture". But, then again, for others it could be the exact opposite: to relieve stress, and tension, it could mean doing something adrenaline-filled (shooting range, rollercoaster, whatever).

When I was younger, I used to like to bang 'em in the car in a secluded area, and then when they get out of the car I'd beat them to death and take my money back. Then I'd go hot-rodding and run some pedestrians over and get chased by the cops.

I just workout. It helps.

One of the most significant and best stress relievers there is.

It's physiologically proven so you can't go wrong. Just think of it this way, from a scientific point of view, when you lift weights, your brain releases endorphins to relax you. Just have to make the time for it, incorporate it into your schedule, and when you have the chance, hit the weights.

Well, you can still do both of those things while driving around. Although, after a while, you might forget why you're driving around, and then get lost, but then not care that you're lost, and then have to explain to the nice officer why he had to pull you over 'cause the car was full of smoke and you couldn't see the road...

It depends. Plinking, going for a short drive, excercise, music, and chilling with a few friends for a drink or two are all good suggestions if you have a stressful moment or just a bad day. But if your situation is caused by a series of events over a period of time(like I assume you are talking about when you refer to "life management") and you have been stressed for a considerable period of time nothing helps like a vacation. Doesn't need to be extravagent, either. A couple days to a week away from the normal routine enjoying simple pleasures will help to clear a persons mind and let them refocus. If money is tight, simply take 2-3 days off and drive somewhere away from home that you think you would enjoy and do some major sightseeing for a couple of days. The break in your routine may help you to refocus and put things into perspective.

Usually my stress comes from work that I need to do. So, rationally, I work hard on getting it done well and soon, or getting the first part of it done*. However, there can be stress that is not of my control, which is not often the case, for me at least. When it is, it is very relaxing to me to go to a book store, either a used one, or a Goodwill that has a lot of books, or a Barnes and Noble, and look around, maybe buy something. That's pretty relaxing for me.

But I don't get stressed too often. Remember that procrastination is an evil thing that needs to be destroyed. Procrastination is not some sort of badge of honor, like a lot of people think. They walk around and say "Oh man, I'm just a procrastinator! LOL!" Would you walk around saying, "Oh man, I'm just not very intelligent and proactive!" and act as if you are proud of that? Absolutely not.

Excellence is a habit, and we must strive to attain that level of virtue. I am the first one in the law school at the beginning of the day. At 6:30am, it is just me. This is on accordance of the stride for excellence. It's not that I have to be better than everyone else, it is that I have to be the best I can be. I have a moral duty to do that. I put myself in the position of where I can best attain excellence.

I'm a very easy going person though. I'm not a dominator of other people. There is no one that really gets on my nerves and causes me stress. I am thankful for the things and people I have been blessed to have and known, and I remember that. That is very de-stressing.

I enjoy a clean home. It would cause me a lot of stress if my apartment was always messy. But I don't let it get to that point. When it starts to get that way, I deal with it. Then I feel better about things.

Beauty is relaxing. Mozart, some things of nature, art, music like Dave Brubeck's Strange Meadow Lark:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0HUEiUOCLeI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0HUEiUOCLeI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Some people have suggested working out. That is a very common and good answer. Another common and good answer is doing charity work. Although if your stress stems from not having enough time, it can be detrimental, unforunately. However, if time is not the problem, then perhaps volunteering just a couple of hours a week or month helping a soup kitchen or after-school program could be very good for a person's soul, and also for the souls of those you are helping.

*Along these lines, I think it's very important to break things down into parts, to better handle them. Don't just "clean your house," but "clean your bedroom" and when you have done so, check that off a physical list, and feel the gratification of that accomplishment. A list that is fully checked off can be immensely satisfying. I have even included on lists things that I have already done, just so I can check it off.

This is pretty much me. The difference is that it took me until I was around 30 years old to adopt this outlook, and it's a constant struggle to remind myself. I have years and years of habitually attempting to "escape" my stress rather than actually address and alleviate it. Lists are the bomb. My father was a compulsive list maker, and it drove me crazy. I think that was a big reason I always refused them. Now, though, I absolutely love making lists and checking them off. My google tasks app is probably the most used application on my iPhone besides Grocery IQ (which is a grocery list app).
