Yeah, that's probably worth like $100-150, max.

I gave away one of my old computer that was better than that to my friend for free.

The video RAM is kinda low.....

Probably worth $100 or so.

But to answer the question, if all this laptop is used for is checking email and crap online, then it will work fine.

You don't actually say how much video ram it has. It's a basic computer. $150ish for a desktop seems right. I don't know prices on laptops because I don't give a shit about them.

Anyways, it'll work fine for basically anything outside of gaming/video editing/running a ton of stuff at once.

That is a decent machine as long as you have no plans on high end gaming or video editing.

But for use as a business/email computer it is just fine.

It's only 'weak' points are the amount of ram is has, small hard drive, and it has an intel graphics processor instead of a quality dedicated.

We were getting rid of these laptops by the truckload when I left Garmin. These had HORRIBLE issues with the built in video overheating. Seriously, I'd say I probably replaced 4-5 of these a week for video issues.

I have an almost identical desktop at home I purchased new almost 6 years ago that my kids play WoW on. It does ok as long as you turn the graphics options down quite a bit. Just upgraded that HD to 1 TB last month for $60, hard drives are getting silly cheap.

Yeah it's no biggie, he bought it to give to this kid in our church who is majoring in computer programming. He wanted to get a crappy computer to mess around with.

He got ripped for the sole fact of delivery charge.. Could have went to goodwill and picked up something similar..

Depending on what programing he is doing it school it should suffice.. Great gesture none the less.

I have always had issues with Dell's.

They work good for my company. That is all we sell. Dell PC's and Servers. We sell them all with a three year next business day warranty. How many pc companies can do that?

That being said don't buy the version they sell at Walmart.

The 620 isn't a bad machine...we have them in some of our schools and they've performed pretty well with mostly Office programs, Internet, etc. Video editing with Movie Maker works pretty decently too. The battery life doesn't seem that great though.

The compilers he'll use for his programming needs should work just fine on the system.

AND... a real nice gesture from your dad for giving it to him.

wish there more more people like you dad around in this world :thumb:
