The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has signed free agent LB Mark Simoneau (pronounced SIM-in-no). The club also added WR Jeremy Horne to the practice squad.

Simoneau (6-0, 245) has played in 123 games (68 starts) with New Orleans (2006-07), Philadelphia (2003-05) and Atlanta (2000-02). He has produced 525 tackles (326 solo), 7.0 sacks, one interception, 12 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 51 special teams tackles. The Phillipsburg, Kansas native has seen action in seven postseason contests (four starts), registering 30 tackles (20 solo) and one pass defensed. Simoneau originally entered the NFL as a third-round selection (67th overall) of Atlanta in 2000.

Simoneau finished his career at Kansas State ranked third in school history with 400 tackles and 48.0 tackles for loss. He was a USA Today honorable mention selection as a running back and linebacker at Smith Center High School in Smith Center, Kansas.

Horne (6-2, 193) has played in three games with Kansas City in 2010 after originally joining the team as a college free agent. He saw action in 36 games (20 starts) in three seasons at Massachusetts, catching 84 passes for 1,338 yards with 11 TDs. He prepped at Milford Academy in New Berlin, New York.

The club released DE Atiyyah Ellison. Ellison was inactive last week vs. Jacksonville (10/24).

He tore his triceps last year in training camp but I don't know why he didn't play in 2008.

I'm betting this is a special teams move. The guy is 33 years old and I doubt they want him playing defense after missing three years.

I'll be honest, Simoneau is one player I've always wanted in the Chiefs uniform. To bad it was 5-7 years ago, but the guy is 100% the type of football player you want on your team!

Probably Bill Snyder's favorite player of all-time at Kansas State and that says a lot.

Even at his age, will probably be a very good Special Teams player.

Todd Haley was the WR Coach on the Bears when Thomas Jones was the RB, they practically were giving each other hand jobs in the locker room after games.

Anthony Toribio was an undrafted Miami Dolphin Bill Parcells pluck in 2008

Casey Weigmann played for the Jets when OUR ENTIRE ****ING COACHING STAFF pretty much also came from that same Jets era.

Ryan Lilja is the mulligan. I'll give you him.

I'm happy for him, I think he is all about being a team player.. Andy Reid said Mark was one of his favorite players to be around. Knowing Haley he will only be on the team for a week or two.. LOL... Heck he might be able to kick a couple field goals for us if Succop goes down!

Thomas Jones never played on the Bears in the same year that Haley was coaching. He started his Bears career in 2004. Haley left for Arizona in 2004. And you're using the "tree" pretty liberally if you think that in one year of coaching 13 years ago, Weis and Haley were dying to get Casey Wiegmann or that the Chiefs only brought in Torribio because he spent a fraction of an offseason in a Parcells-run team.

So what I'm hearing is that any player who has ever even touched the rosters of the Cardinals, Patriots, Browns, Dolphins, Saints, Rams, Giants, Broncos, Falcons, a lot of the Eagles (Spagnuolo), a lot of the Jets (Mangini), earlier 2000s Cowboys and Bears (Haley), and loosely... much of the Bucs (Bates), the Benglas (Bresnahan), and Steelers (John Mitchell), and Ravens (Newsome) are completely off limits? That's half the league!

Phillipsburg is right next to Smith Center. They are in the NC/NW part of the State. The league those teams play in is considered by many in Kansas the greatest small school football league in the State of Kansas (The Mid-Continent League). Schools like Norton, Smith Center, Stockton, Phillipsburg, Osborne, Ellis, Hill City, Plainville, and Trego County. They are all situated just north of Hays and Great Bend up to the Nebraska border. During the 80's it wasn't uncommon to see 2-3 schools from that league in the State Title game yearly. In the mid 80's they even had the 2A/3A/4A State Champs in the same year.

Of course the book "Our Boys" is about Smith Center where the Simoneau's starred at.

Fun fact about Smith Center. They won five straight state 'ships in the mid 2000's and won 80 some odd games. They passed the ball something like 5 times in that time frame. One was on a botched special teams play.

They didn't used to be. When I played at Palco, those area schools were all eleven man as part of the MCL conference.

The smaller schools in the area were all 8 man and part of the Cheyenne Conference:

Palco
Kensington
Eastern Heights - doesn't exist any more
Lenora - doesn't exist any more
Logan
Morland - doesn't exist any more
Jennings - no clue what happend to them, we beat them my Sr year 97-6 in football
