1. Von Miller or Akeem Ayers, OLB; Texas A&M/UCLA
- Miller is pure speed and has been the best pass rusher in college for the past two seasons. He was hurt early on this season, but still played through it. Ayers, a junior, is a more rounded player but without the first step burst of Miller. It's likely that one of these players will be available when the Chiefs pick in 2011. A replacement for Vrabel is needed and Studebaker will never be more than a special teams/situational player at best. Improving the pass rush/pressure would help this team immensely.

The second round pick in 2011 is huge for the Chiefs. They could go in a number of directions and fill a position of need or upgrade a position that could really stand an upgrade, such as quarterback (Cassel had a nice game against the Seahawks, but that doesn't mean that he's good), offensive tackle (Albert, Richardson and O'Murphy aren't elite by any stretch and depth is needed), cornerback (Carr is not progressing to the point where he's a solid #2 and teams are going at him now a lot and having success), wide receiver (there is literally nothing beyond Bowe on this team at the WR position).

I personally would love to see Christian Ponder here for the Chiefs. I don't think Matt Cassel is legit, but at this point, he gets the benefit of the doubt, especially considering that the next two subsequent drafts will still be quarterback rich. He is winning without a lot of choices on offense to throw to and has taken to the coaching of Weis and Haley. So, the choice is:

2. Matt Reynolds, OT; BYU
- Reynolds has started at left tackle at BYU since his freshman year. He's a redshirt junior who is physically and mentally ready to play at the next level. He's a two time all-conference first teamer who has paved the way for record breaking offensive players like Austin Collie, Dennis Pitta and Harvey Unga. Massive and athletic, he can play either tackle position. Not a sexy pick, but looking at the lack of talent and depth on the Chiefs offensive line, it's a needed pick.

3. Austin Pettis, WR; Boise State
- Pettis is long with soft hands and a nose for the end zone. He's not fast, which will drop him a bit come draft day, but he's a legit NFL possession receiver - something the Chiefs desparately need.

4. Ricky Stanzi, QB; Iowa
- Prototype size and experience behind center. Stanzi is having a very good year his senior year after a less than stellar junior campaign. Has a lot of tools you would want in pro quarterback, he just needs the consistency. Would benefit a lot from being in a Weis/Haley system and has the potential of being a solid quarterback at the next level. And if nothing else, the kid looks the part.

5. Zane Taylor or Colin Baxter, C; Utah/Arizona
- Much like the first round, it's likely that one of these very good centers is sitting there in the fifth round for the Chiefs. Both are nasty, strong and capable. Both are team captains. Both are athletic freaks for 6'+, 300 lbs. dudes: high school wrestling champions, track and field guys who are also weight room heroes. Almost identical players in size and skill, either would be a steal here.

6. Jason Teague, CB; TCU
- Tall, lanky corner with good ball skills. Has the size and athleticism to cover the modern era NFL possession receivers and embraces contact in defending the run.

7. Brandon Bair, DE/DT; Oregon
- Enormous (6'6", 275 lbs.) with a lot of athleticism, Bair hasn't received the attention he deserves because of his age (27) and that the Ducks offensive unit steals the show. However, he has been a force when needed to be and could step in and provide production immediately as a five tech defensive end at the next level. A real steal if still available in the later rounds.

I like Ayers in the first. Not sold on Miller, watched a couple of A&M games this year and wasn't overly impressed. Wish we could get both Ayers and Wisniewski and I'd be real happy. Plus some depth for the secondary. Gotta think the Chiefs will be looking at WR's and OL help in free agency.

I wonder if DaQuan Bowers can transition to an OLB. I'm really impressed by his mix of size/speed/athleticism.

The first 3 rounds look good to me. I like Ayers a lot and was thinking Pettis would be a great fit as I was watching the Boise game the other night. There has been talk of Fitzgerald and wonder if the Chiefs would pay the price if he indeed does become available. I'm guessing they would have to give a 1st and 3rd, which would change the draft dramatically.

If I remember correctly, his contract is up after the 2011 season. They can let him walk and get nothing or trade him this offseason or before the deadline. I could be wrong on his contract. If he vents his frustration to the management and tells them he wants out, I'm guessing there is a good chance he is traded this offseason. If he keeps his mouth shut, probably not. Gotta dream, right?
