he was a pretty good football player as well. He was ranked as one of the top cowboy players on the nfl network.

It's weird that the top memory I have of Meredith has always been a Thanksgiving Day game he did with NBC in the mid-70s, when Curt Gowdy was doing the on-camera intro and Dandy Don was next to him waving a turkey leg and looking like he already was three sheets to the wind.

Very sad. He was one of the good guys, and a great foil to Cosell.

This brings back a lot of memories (the intro, not the game):

Meredith comes in near the end, 2:50.

The banter between him a Cosell was classic.

Dandy: Moot? What do you mean, moot?

Howard: Moot. M-O-O-T. Moot. And the education of Dandy Don continues.

Great stuff.

HE was always gassed by the end of the game. When he started singing turn out the lights he was obviously feeling pretty good. The days when the networks didn't care about drinking in the booth.

They pretty much had started frowning on it EVEN before Broadway Joe with his Kissing Suzie Kobler stunt.

they say that all good things must endAs soon as I heard it, I broke into,

TUUUUUUURN out the lights, the Parteees ovah(In my best southern drawl I could muster.).

RIP Dandy Don, you were a good contrast to Howard. Definitely a TV Icon in the day.

I didn't hear this until after work today. Don was rude, crude and socially unacceptable but he was funny as hell in his time.
