The 3-4 is now popular because no one used to run it except freaks like Bill Belichick and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Then someone said, "Uh, hey, you know what? The Patriots and Steelers seem to win a lot. Maybe we should run the 3-4". Belichick's insidious plan is working because as soon as everyone runs the 3-4 he's going back to the 4-3.
