I'd bet anything Houston takes Jones-Drew out of that game by getting a big lead early.

I bet this comes down to Charles and Foster.

Either way the Jags, Texans and Chiefs all play at noon on the final Sunday so it's gonna be fun tracking the top 3 rushers simultaneously.

Foster has a bum ankle, too, so that works in Charlie's favor.

Charles needs more carries.

If he had 277 carries like Foster he'd have 1717 yards

If he had 299 like Drew he'd have 1853 yards

He'd be blowin the league away.

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster was knocked out of the team's Week 15 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the fourth quarter with ankle and hip injuries, ending the fantasy football title hopes of many after a lackluster afternoon.

But Foster's injuries appear to be minor, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, and he's expected to be able to play in Week 16 against the Denver Broncos.

However, maybe that pickup of Derrick Ward you've been considering for your fantasy team wouldn't be the worst idea, just for peace of mind:

Report: Jones-Drew won’t play, barring a miracle

Posted by Mike Florio on December 24, 2010, 2:39 PM EST

Only 21 yards behind Texans running back Arian Foster for the NFL rushing lead, Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew won’t get a chance to overtake Foster on Sunday.

Unless Foster loses 21 yards or more against the Broncos.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that, barring a miracle, Jones-Drew won’t play when the Jaguars host the Redskins on Sunday.

Glazer says that Jones-Drew’s knee remains swollen.

That sound you hear is a mad rush by the folks still playing fantasy football to add Rashad Jennings to their playoff rosters.

Wait, where's the amazing and durable RB who goes by the name Darren McFadden on that list? We were told by all the Raider trolls that Charles is a situational back and will never be a real RB like DMC.

I'm glad you brought this up. Because I've said all along that McFadden is a fraud of a back. And his numbers are inflated because of his big runs.

So I decided to see just how much.

If you take away McFaddens single big run per game it adds up to taking away 356 yards. That leaves him with 756 yards for the season rushing on what would be 200 carries.

3.78 yards per carry.

If you take away Charles big runs that's 374 yards. That leaves 929 yards on 189 carries. That's still 4.9 per carry.

Like I said all along, McFraud couldn't carry Charles' jock with a bulldozer.

What would you rather have? 1800 yards and 3-5 less wins? Or a 2010 AFCW Championship and a fresh back going into the playoffs?

Dante84
12-29-2010, 10:31 PM
JC will get no more than 5-10 carries for the entire game at the most, in all likelihood.

If he can break a good one, say 20+, that might be enough to break Jim Brown's record. Surely the coaches are taking this into account, even if they choose to act on it or not.

Right now, he's actually at 6.38, so every play matters since it appears that they round. He has a .3 window, essentially.

Arian Foster, Jamaal Charles gunning for rushing title

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 31, 2010, 9:37 AM EST

Week 17 is about finalizing playoff spots. For some teams, it’s also about aiming for individual goals.

This year, the Texans and Chiefs are hoping to help their lead backs earn a rushing title. Texans running back Arian Foster has 1,436 yards, leading the Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles by 56 yards.

“I think it’s important to the team,” said Texans coach Gary Kubiak. “I think it’s important to the offense. Not me personally, but I think it’s something that’s hard to get in this league.”

As awesome as Foster has been, Charles has turned in the more impressive season. His 6.4 yards-per-carry average is almost unheard of. No one has come close to a mark like that since Jim Brown. Charles has thrown in 455 receiving yards.

“I might play a lot this week and I’m still trying to get the rushing title,” Charles told the team’s website.

Kansas City has been careful not to overwork Charles all year. With no bye week coming up, it seems unlikely they would go crazy to go after a stat title. Charles plays early in the day, so Foster will know how many yards he needs to get when he suits up in the late afternoon.

Charles had one carry too many....
Jamaal Charles had a chance at history Sunday by finishing an averaging more yards per carry than any back in NFL history.

Charles has the record secured until his last, meaningless carry.

The record, held by Browns great Jim Brown is an average of 6.4 yards per carry. Had Charles stopped at 229 carries (well after the game was decided) he would have finished the season averaging 6.41 yards per carry. Unfortunately for Charles, his last carry of the day went for -1 yard, knocking his average down to 6.378 yards per carry.

If your day wasn’t already depressing enough, I felt obligated to let you know how close Charles came.It especially stings because Charles got 3 carries on KC’s last drive playing their starters when the game was already pretty much lost.

Still, congratulations on Jamaal for one heck of a season. He has a very bright career ahead of him.
