The Kansas City Chiefs are 10-5 and are the AFC West Champions.
Saying that will never get old but what does it mean?

It means the chiefs are no longer an NFL bottom feeder and that the NFL will have to recognize that when they are putting together the list of nationally televised games for the 2011 seasons.

The Chiefs havenít spend a lot of time in front of the national audience after winning just 10 games in 3 season but now that they are back on top, we can expect to see them get a few primetime games next season. KCís record, combined with their schedule next season, could put them in line for a number of Sunday night and Monday night appearances.

After the jump, weíll take a look at the teamís the Chiefs will be playing next year and try to pick which games might be televised nationally.

Front Runners:

Chiefs vs. Chargers

The Chiefs will play the Chargers twice next year and either game could have big playoff implications. Either one of these games could be in primetime.

Chiefs vs. New England Patriots

I am 100% confident this one is going to be on TV. Matt Cassel vs. the Patriots for the first time. Romeo Crennel, Charlie Weis and Scott Pioli take on ďThe Hoodie.Ē The only thing that could make this game more interesting is if these two teams meet in the playoffs this year.

Chiefs vs. Jets

The Jets are media darlings. With the Chiefs and Jets likely to play in the Wild Card round this year, this game could be a grudge match. Donít be surprised if this one is on a Sunday or Monday night.

Chiefs vs. Steelers

If the Steelers win the AFC North, which they probably will, the Chiefs will play Pittsburgh next season. The last Chiefs/Steelers game was a classic and with Todd Haleyís Pittsburgh roots, this one has plenty of interesting story lines. The Steelers and Chiefs (when they are good) are big draws so this game is a prime candidate.

Chiefs vs. Colts

If the Colts win the AFC South, the Chiefs will also play the Colts. The networks love Peyton Manning. This will be a very interesting game and could find itís way to the big stage.

Chiefs vs. Bears

The Bears seem to get nationally televised games even when they stink. Chicago is a big market so this one also would look good on the national TV lineup. Heck, if all goes well, it could be the Super Bowl rematch game that opens the season. =)

Chiefs vs. Packers

Another attractive game that would feature two of the NFLís youngest and most exciting teams.

Possible But Unlikely:

Chiefs vs. Dolphins

This one might of had some intrigue this year because of the Pioli/Haley vs. Parcells connection. With ďThe TunaĒ no longer heavily involved with the Dolphins and Miami not making the playoffs, this looks more like a Sunday afternoon game than a primetime contest.

Chiefs vs. Vikings

No more Favre, no more relevancy for the Vikings.

Chiefs vs. Lions

Thanksgiving Day game? That is is the only way this contest gets on national TV. I put this in the ďPossible But UnlikelyĒ category because some of KCís other games are so interesting that they may have so many primetime games that the NFL decides to put another team in the Thanksgiving Day slot. Although it has been a while since KC has played on Turkey Day so donít rule this one out just yet.

Chiefs vs. Raiders

The Raiders havenít been very good this decade but they are playing much, much better now and they have a very big fan base. Either one of the Chiefs Raiders game could end up on national TV. In fact, even if Chiefs vs. Raiders isnít initially scheduled for one of the prime TV slots, there is the possibility they could be flexed in late int he season if both teams do well and are battling it out for the AFC West title.

Not Going To Happen:

Chiefs vs. Broncos

The Broncos stink and their entire future as an organization is in doubt. Denver isnít likely to see any primetime appearances next season.

Chiefs vs. Bills

It seems like the Chiefs and Bills play every year but at least next year it wonít be because the Chiefs are playing a last place schedule. The Bills are miserable this year and they havenít done much down the stretch to inspire much confidence for next year. No primetime for the Bills.

At final tally:

8 of the Chiefs games have a very good possibility of being national.
5 have a decent possibility of making the primetime schedule, including a possible Thanksgiving Day game.

3 of KCís 2011 games have probably no chance of being on the national stage.

What do you think Addicts? Which Chiefsí games do you want to see in primetime next year?

I think there will be more Chiefs games on TV due to their improvement, and the quality of teams they are facing.

I also think that schedule scares the shit out of me, and I'm not even a Chiefs fan. Chargers twice, Raiders twice, Broncos twice, Patriots, Jets, Steelers, Colts, Bears, Packers, Dolphins, Vikings, Lions, Bills? Holy fuck. The only confident Ws I see on that schedule are the Dolphins and Bills, and even they've shown they can rise up and give a team a tough time. That should easily be the hardest schedule in the NFL. :shake:

So we play the AFC East and NFC North next year? Let's hope the Bills/Fins and Vikes/Lions are the road games.

One thing I've definitely learned from being an NFL fan for so long is that: if you make it to the dance, anything can happen. Next year this schedule could set us back a couple games record-wise from an average schedule but it doesn't mean we can't still win the division. The other teams in the West play most of these games also, and guess what...they all have to play the Chiefs twice!

With as bright as our future looks with Pioli/Haley this schedule really doesn't worry me all that much. As long as we can win the West again, we'll be better than we were this year and in the playoffs once again. When we're there, anything can happen. If we keep getting better and better the schedule will be irrelevant. Do you think if Patriots fans saw a schedule like this they'd be all that worried?

Bills/Fins are home games, Vikes/packers are home games.

So hopefully Miami doesn't go 7-1 on the road and 1-7 at home again. LOL

Wow, that looks like one bitch of a schedule.

It likely will be. I don't really get too excited about the schedule, though. All of the teams in the AFCW play the same schedule except for two games, so the only thing schedule really does is impacts our chances at the WC.

Not really man. We're gonna be better, and we're gonna be able to beat good teams. I mean if we're just looking at these games vs "very good/great" teams and thinking we're gonna lose them all, then what's the point of being a fan or wanting us in the playoffs? Sure, we'll lose more games than we would with an average schedule (expectedly) but what if we would go 13-3 with an average schedule? We could go 12-4 or 11-5 with this one.

Old Dog
12-27-2010, 04:28 PM
For the schedule alone I bought a set of Coca-Cola seats to sell for next season. Between the Packers and Steelers games folks could make a lot of money in the "secondary market".

Eesh. Given how the Lions have improved, that's a possible freakin' 0-8 road schedule, even if the Chiefs play well. :shake:

(On the other hand, as has been said, you never know what happens. The schedule always looks tough until you start to play it, and then it might look different. The Pats started with Cincy and everyone thought the Bengals would be a tough game. Same for the Vikings before the season started. Turned out to be much different stories when the ball was snapped.)

I knew this about NE. I typed that wrong. The Bears game is in Chicago though. It's not opposite of last time we played that division. It's because they changed up the team you share schedules from your own division with, so some are the same. Sort of like @STL in 2006 and 2010.

I'm sure we'll get a game at least... don't know about that article though. I'd almost guarantee the Broncos at least get something in primetime because 1) they're the Broncos, and 2) they will likely be starting Tim Tebow. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see something like a Chiefs/Broncos MNF game. I really wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos didn't get more primetime games than we did. Some of this might depend on who does what in the playoffs anyway.
