Kindle had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system
Posted by Mike Florio on December 28, 2010, 7:37 AM EST

When Ravens linebacker Sergio Kindle was arrested Sunday for DUI, testing revealed a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.17 percent, according to the Baltimore Sun.

That’s twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Kindle says he was driving home with friends, which means either that they were foolish to ride with a drunk guy or that Kindle was the least drunk guy in the vehicle.

“I just want to apologize to the organization because I don’t want to bring a negative light to the team,” Kindle said. “It was my mistake. I can’t take it back now.”

Kindle’s rookie season was wiped out by a fractured skull suffered not long before training camp. He supposedly fell down a flight of stairs in the dark. The news of his 0.17 percent blood-alcohol concentration will serve only to fuel suspicion that he was fueled with the same kind of beverages at the time he suffered his head injury.

Kindle was arrested for DUI in 2007 and he crashed his car into a building two years later. In the latter case, he claimed he was texting while driving.

“He’s got a track record for making really poor decisions,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday, per the Sun. “He knows that. That’s a problem.”

It’s a problem for the player, and it’s a problem for the team that invested a second-round pick in him during the 2010 draft

What a dumb ass. The kid has the world by the balls and is boozing it away.

Although deemed a first-round talent by most analysts, many teams were scared off by Kindle's often-injured knee and his off-the-field incidents.[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Kindle#cite_note-Hensley_Baltimore_Sun-9) Kindle fell into the second round and was ultimately drafted by the Baltimore Ravens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Ravens), 43rd overall. He said in a press conference shortly after the draft he was targeting the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League_Rookie_of_the_Year_Award) in 2010.[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Kindle#cite_note-Hensley_Baltimore_Sun-9) However, after the Ravens' minicamp, Kindle acknowledged: "When I said that, it was just an exciting moment for me, getting drafted. My head was in the clouds."[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Kindle#cite_note-10)
On July 25, Kindle fell down the stairs at a home in Austin, Texas. He was sent to the hospital in stable condition but was described as suffering head trauma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concussion). It was later determined he fractured his skull in the fall down two flights of stairs. As a result, Kindle was unable to attend the Ravens' training camp at McDaniel College (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDaniel_College).[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Kindle#cite_note-11)
On September 23, 2010, Kindle signed a 1-year contract for $320,000, the rookie minimum and was immediately placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Kindle#cite_note-12) Because Kindle did not sign until Week 3 of the 2010 season, Kindle did receive a prorated salary of $282,000. The contract included no signing bonus (by comparison, New England Patriots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_Patriots) tight end Rob Gronkowski (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Gronkowski), the player drafted just before Kindle, received a signing bonus of $1.76 million).[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Kindle#cite_note-13)

Well, many of us spoke very, very vocally about the kid being a head case and a character issue. But sometimes in some people's minds, talent is more important than character.

The fact that the kid has had multiple incidents in college and now already two shady incidents in the pros tells you a lot about this kid's future.

I thought Kindle falling to the second round was a gift from the football gods going into the second day of the draft. Glad I don't work for the Chiefs front office. Waste of talent...

When you hear Haley or Pioli talk about character, remember guys like Kindle. Glad our organization understands the value of character.

Yeah, that sure looks unlikely now. The other deal might still have been legit, but it won't matter now.

Does this mean the commissioner will suspend him for a few games if he is ever healthy enough to play a game?

Although deemed a first-round talent by most analysts, many teams were scared off by Kindle's often-injured knee and his off-the-field incidents.[10] Kindle fell into the second round and was ultimately drafted by the Baltimore Ravens, 43rd overall. He said in a press conference shortly after the draft he was targeting the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2010.[10] However, after the Ravens' minicamp, Kindle acknowledged: "When I said that, it was just an exciting moment for me, getting drafted. On July 25, Kindle fell down the stairs at a home in Austin, Texas. He was sent to the hospital in stable condition but was described as suffering head trauma. It was later determined he fractured his skull in the fall down two flights of stairs. As a result, Kindle was unable to attend the Ravens' training camp at McDaniel College.[12]
On September 23, 2010, Kindle signed a 1-year contract for $320,000, the rookie minimum and was immediately placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.[13] Because Kindle did not sign until Week 3 of the 2010 season, Kindle did receive a prorated salary of $282,000. The contract included no signing bonus (by comparison, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, the player drafted just before Kindle, received a signing bonus of $1.76 million).[14]

Sounds like he's got a pretty good deal, getting paid $282,000 to hang out and play video games all day.

Granted, it would be a better deal if he'd actually play football. That's an expensive life lesson, and he's never going to have another chance at that money.
