No blackout

The Chiefs say they have sold enough tickets that both Sunday’s final regular-season game against Oakland and the following weekend’s first-round playoff game will be televised live in Kansas City.

Tickets are still available for the Oakland game and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the Arrowhead Stadium ticket office. The Chiefs said only premium seats (mainly club level) remain available for the playoff game.

The Arrowhead ticket office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Streaking Wiegmann

Chiefs center Casey Wiegmann has started 158 straight games dating back to 2001, the first season of his first stint with the Chiefs. According to the Chiefs, he’s taken 10,069 consecutive snaps since then.

That streak could be in danger Sunday when the Chiefs play against the Raiders at Arrowhead. The Chiefs may try to provide some rest for some of their key veterans in the second half.

Wiegmann is one of the Chiefs’ best offensive linemen and, at 37, he’s certainly a veteran. But the Chiefs might have to physically restrain Wiegmann in order to keep him off the field.

“I haven’t done that to this day so there’s no sense in doing it now,” Wiegmann said of taking a few plays off.

What’s in this for Oakland?

The Raiders have the reputation of being quitters, but that isn’t always accurate when it comes to the season’s final game. Longtime Chiefs fans will recall Oakland coming to Kansas City for the final game of the 1999 season and rallying for an overtime win. That game dropped the Chiefs to 9-7 and cost them the AFC West championship and a playoff spot.

In more recent times, 2008, the Raiders trekked across the country and won at Tampa Bay, knocking the Bucs from a playoff spot.

So don’t expect the Raiders to necessarily mail it in Sunday against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. They’ve spent this the week trying to concoct motivation for the game, and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, as thoughtful a player as any in the NFL, offered this one: A victory over the Chiefs would make the Raiders a perfect 6-0 against other AFC West opponents.

“Any time you can go undefeated in your division, you own your division whether you made the playoffs or not, whether other teams had better records,” he said. “You own your division and you go into that next year with that confidence and the other teams now know you’re the team to beat, even if there’s a team there that ends up making it to the Super Bowl.”

Has a playoff game ever been blacked out?

I'm betting the Chiefs make this game ugly for the Raiders. We're pumped up for a playoff run and well, they have Al Davis who looks like he's about to die from a horrible Aids infection.

He is what I figured Magic would look like today.

Seymour wants a souvenir kneecap. We should want one of his kidneys. Waters needs to battle him, with so many trap plays that Seymour will need a couple days to piss blood.

I can't find a nice, comprehensive list, but the Miami/Indy playoff game was blacked out back in 2001, and that was the first one in seven years. Also, the first six Super Bowls were even blacked out in the local markets. So yeah, it's happened. Tough to tell how often, but it's not very.
