View Full Version : Football My All-Rookie Team

These are the things that happen when you spend extended time with family during the holidays. You end up compiling an "All-Rookie" team.

Stats are accurate up to last Sunday.

QB: Sam Bradford. He’s cooled off significantly as of late, but 18 TDs against 14 picks and a six win improvement, even in the worst division in the history of professional sports, shows that he deserves the honor. I would be a bit concerned by his ridiculously low YPA given his completion %. He’s a dump off machine at this point, but that’s a smart thing to do for a young QB.

RB: LeGarrette Blount. Tennessee probably wishes they wouldn’t have pissed him away, as Chris Johnson is showing that he really needs a compliment to be his most effective. 941 yards on only 182 carries is very impressive. Jahvid Best was a solid honorable mention here.

WR: Mike Williams. Everyone thought he was a head case coming out of college, but all he has done so far is produce. Has 10 TDs and almost 1000 yards as a rookie

WR: Dez Bryant. Fought through ankle injuries to put up a solid rookie campaign. He’s been far more explosive as a returner than a receiver, but he looks promising.

TE: Rob Gronkowski. Has fewer receptions and yards than Hernandez or Moeaki, but he has 9 TDs and is a devastating blocker. Although Hernandez has the best overall stats, Moeaki has been better, as he’s a far more effective blocker. The extremely raw, but uber-talented Jimmy Graham has come on late as well, and Shockey will be out on his ass next year in New Orleans.

KR/PR: Marc Mariani. 25.2 yards on kicks w/ a TD, plus another PR TD and 4 20+ yard kick returns. Brandon Banks was excellent here as well.

LOT: Rodger Saffold. Unseated a #2 overall pick as a rookie and protected Bradford’s blind side very well all year. Looks like a 10 year starter.

LG: Mike Iupati. Solid throughout the year.

C: Maurkice Pouncey. Another in a seemingly endless line of amazing Pittsburgh centers. He’s already their best OL by far and one of the best interior lineman in the conference.

RG: John Jerry. Most people seem pretty pleased with his play.

RT: Brian Bulaga. He's not even that good, but he wins by default. Anthony Davis has been fucking horrible (7 sacks allowed as a RT).

DE: Carlos Dunlap. With eight sacks as a rookie, he’s looking like the potential top five pick he was billed to be before his junior season, and not the second rounder he ended up being.

DT: Ndamukong Suh. Nine sacks from a DT is ridiculous. Nine sacks from a rookie DT is unheard of. Barring injury, he’s a Hall of Famer.

DT: Tyson Alualu. Everyone hated this pick at #11. Unfortunately, this Tyson who was a reach is playing up to, and beyond, his draft position.

DE: Lamarr Houston. He’s an active player who is doing a solid job of getting after the QB. He’s a monstrous left end, at 305 pounds.

OLB/DE: Koa Misi. A pure pass rusher only, but as a 3-4 OLB, he’s going to be an ace player for a long time.

OLB: Pat Angerer. Been a solid player. He’s never going to be a pro bowler, but he’ll be a good starter for a number of years.

MLB: Darryl Washington. Has played on a horrible team, but he’s been more solid than Rolando McClain with far less help on defense, and put up the same numbers with 4 fewer starts.

OLB: Sean Weatherspoon. When on the field, he’s been a really good player. No one really deserves this spot, but if you were going to put one up for it, he’s been the best of the rest. He was looking like a lock for a 100 tackle season before hurting his knee.

FS: Earl Thomas. A classic ballhawk.

SS: Eric Berry. In many years, he’d be the DROY. Hopefully the people bitching about him shut up.

CB: Joe Haden. Like Brandon Flowers, proves that 40 times aren’t everything for CBs. He’ll be a pro bowler sooner than later

CB: Devin McCourty. Makes plays all over the field

Can't argue with any of your selections.

I could see people taking umbrage to the Blount and Gronkowski picks. I'm sure Saccopoo is making a Coke bottle silencer for my failure to include Okung.

I can see homers having an issue with the Gronkowski pick.

'Hamas', Saffold didn't unseed Smith at LOT. Smith played ROT at Baylor and felt that he was better suited to play there.

Solid writeup.

Jamar Chaney is another guy who will be a very good player from this draft. Since replacing an injured Stewart Bradley, Chaney has played very, very well. I would think that if he had started all season, he would definitely unseat one of the inside linebackers.

Yes he did. Smith was drafted at #2 overall b/c he was expected to be a 12 year starter at LOT. He was given every opportunity to win that job and couldn't, and one of the reasons why is because Saffold is better.

Well, that's one way to cover up a massive fail of a draft pick.

Nah, he was one of those drafturbator favorites.

He's been good at ROT. And you are correct that Smith did struggle at LOT.

At Punter, who would you rather have, Zoltan Mesko or Matt Dodge?

You have to go with Mesko, because Dodge has been a head case even before that kick to Jackson that hurt them so much against the Eagles. Mesko also has a huge leg.

I didn't choose P and K b/c there are literally no rookie kickers worth a rat fuck this year.

That is very true. Were there any UDFA Ks that actually stayed on a team this year?

Nice team. I disagree with Angerer at MLB though. I don't like him this year, and he's made a few too many mistakes for my liking.

But at the same time I can't think of a rookie MLB that has actually done a decent job this year...Unless I'm totally forgetting somebody.

Other than that, fantastic.

Angerer is an OLB. There have been a couple of good rookie MLBs, but the OLB play has left a lot to be desired. A lot of guys on the list are there just because someone has to be there. I hate those lists where someone chooses an All-NFL team and their OL has 4 left tackles on it.

Jacoby Ford > Mariani.Mariani was voted to the Pro Bowl, so he's deserving of this list.

Yeah my bad. I meant to say Outside linebacker. There now I can't mess up the letter. Anyways hopefully next year is a better linebacker class in general because this year was pretty horrid.

Worst excuse ever. Deangelo Hall has made Pro Bowls and he's fucking awful and always has been. The Pro Bowl is a popularity contest and the best players doesnt' always go. Why do I feel like I'm talking to a 5 y/o now?? I'm ashamed to be from the same area as you.

Look at Ford's numbers and tell me he's not better (truthfully)

Ford plays mostly at WR. Mariani is strictly a return specialist(he has no career receptions). And IMO, Banks>Ford.

I can see homers having an issue with the Gronkowski pick.

I don't think that's a homer thing to say. Hamas had it right by picking Gronkowski, but given Moeaki's production as a receiver and a blocker, the difference between the two isn't substantial. It's not nearly the same kind of homer pick as saying, say, Matt Cassel deserves to be MVP. Not even close.

9 TD's on 10 fewer receptions is pretty substantial, IMO.

Not taking anything away from Mo, because he's been solid.

Gronkowski's been the better TE this year.

It's usually not a good thing when a UDFA is putting up better numbers than a former #5 overall pick.

yup....they were given the equivalent of a 1st/2nd rounder (based on production) by the Titans....

Jordan Shipley had a good rookie season sharing time at WR in Cincinnati. 586 yards, 71% catch rate, and 3 TDs.
