Sorry, probably a re-post but couldn't find a thread...

"Jamaal Charles misses Jim Brown's rushing average record by two-hundredths"

Brown 6.4 yards per attempt
Charles 6.38 yards per attempt

It was almost as if Haley planned to kill the opportunity. Charles shouldn't have even been in the game at that point.

That was his last carry too. -1. All he needed was one more 8 yard run.

I'm thinking that the YPC record was the last thing on his mind at that point.

Well the 100% boring play calling he's accountable for (except for the first play) surely should have him worried. The more I drink, the more angry I'm getting about today's game...

He'd probably average a higher YPC if he had a second 'a' in his first name.

Jamaal Charles Says He Wasn't Worried About Rushing Title, Yards Per Carry Record (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2011/1/2/1909736/jamaal-charles-says-he-wasnt-worried-about-rushing-title-yards-per#storyjump)

With 7:55 remaining in Sunday's loss to the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles took a meaningless handoff to the right side of the Chiefs offensive line before being dropped by LB Rolando McClain for a one-yard loss. Charles wouldn't carry the ball again the rest of the game.

I didn't think twice about it but that carry was nearly historic.

As many of you know, Charles was chasing Jim Brown's NFL record for yards per carry in a season. In 1963, Brown ran for 1,863 yards on 291 carries. He averaged 6.402(061855670103) yards per carry. That's an NFL record and, after Charles' 14 carries for 87 yards on Sunday, it remains an NFL record.

As Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com points out, Charles held the record before that final carry. At that time, he had 229 carries for 1,468 yards on the season for an average of 6.410(480349344978) yards per carry. But that one-yard loss moved his final numbers to 230 carries for 1,467 yards for an average of 6.378(260869565217).

Incredible.

"I was just going out there trying to get a win," Charles told us after the game. "I don't worry about that. I love making history and I love going out there and doing the right thing for my team and that's what I tried to do but, hey, the Raiders came out and they won."

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster has also put up 152 yards rushing against the Indianapolis Colts so far (late in the fourth quarter) so unless he loses 120 yards or so, Charles will lose out on the rushing title as well.

"I'm disappointed we lost but, hey, we gotta bounce back," Charles said. "We have another week, and the Raiders don't. "

Actually to be far and more scientifically honest, JC actually beat Jim Brown on the per carry average. Afterall JB rushed in a 14 game season(and put up a huge total) whereas JC rushed in a 16 game schedule. If you consider JC's 1st 14 games he rushed for 1303 yards on 203 carries good for a 6.419 YPC. JB rushed for 1863 yards on 291 carries which is good for 6.402 YPC.

Now you could argue that JB's numbers were much more impressive because he carried the ball nearly 50% more, but the game was also different back then. Honestly to be the most accurate they should have records per NFL era because it's truly hard to compare when too much time separates them.

I like Charles's attitude about this. Some players get so obsessed with breaking records that the records become meaningless because the players change the way they play the game.

When Brett Favre deliberately stopped behind the line of scrimmage a few years ago and let Michael Strahan get a cheap sack so that Strahan would break Gastineau's record, I wanted to reach into the TV and beat the hell out of Favre.

Strahan wasn't the bad guy there, Favre was. I wish Strahan had slapped Favre across the face and said "Try, bitch!".

It might have helped if our OC had called a second off-left tackle run for JC (his first being HUUUUUUGE-ly successful against the Faders) instead of being on the phone with his Florida real estate agent.
